SEQUEL TO USING SQL PUBLISHED

Berkeley, CA, April 28, 1994 -- Structured Query Language (SQL) is the
standard database language used by all leading database management
systems, including Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, DB2, and dozens of others.
Recognizing the increasing importance of SQL in database management,
Osborne/McGraw-Hill has just published LAN Times Guide to SQL, a
completely updated and revised edition of Using SQL by James R. Groff and
Paul N. Weinberg. This book, published under Osborne's co-publishing
agreement with LAN Times magazine, is designed to help readers learn SQL
and take control of its power.

Organized in six comprehensive parts, LAN Times Guide to SQL takes readers
from a basic overview of SQL through programming with SQL and future
directions. Written to the ANSVISO SQL standard, readers will learn SQL
concepts and theory and the role of SQL in database management. Figures,
illustrations, and examples throughout the text make SQL easier to
comprehend.

After reading LAN Times Guide to SQL, users will be able to

* Use SQL to retrieve and store data on a variety of computers
  and networks.
* Write programs that access SQL databases.
* Understand the new SQL2 standard and Microsoft's ODBC standard
for SQL on personal computers--and the impact these standards
  will have.
* Select a SQL database well-suited to a specific application
after reviewing leading product comparisons showing strengths
  and weaknesses.

LAN Times Guide to SQL also offers the most comprehensive treatment of
embedded SQL, dynamic SQL, and the SQL Server and ODBC APIs currently
available. In addition, Groff and Weinberg discuss the SQL benchmark wars,
market trends, and leadership battles that are affecting every part of the
computer industry.

For a unique perspective on SQL and guidance about how to use it to maximum
advantage, LAN Times Guide to SQL is the ultimate resource.

LAN Times Guide to SQL is soft cover, 688 pages, and has examples and
illustrations throughout. Suggested retail price: $29.95. ISBN:
