ASL BREAKS SINGLE IMAGE BARRIER SHOWING FULL MOTION VIDEO ON PCs

Irvine, CA, May, 1994 ... ASL (Alpha Systems Labs) introduces MegaMotion, a
new multimedia video card that, for the first time, enables you to use two
separate, full-motion video inputs, one live and one compressed, and
display four different moving images simultaneously on a desktop PC at a
reasonable price. MegaMotion also provides full image-capture capability,
with real-time 30 frames per second (fps) video capture at a resolution of
320 x 240 pixels. JPEG video compression is used to improve disk
utilization for image storage. MegaMotion comes with a bundled copy of
Adobe Premier' to provide a full range of video editing features.

Designed for professional-quality video presentations, business multimedia,
communications, and home-video applications, MegaMotion can also show up
to 16 video windows by displaying combinations of live video and
freeze-frame images in real-time.

MegaMotion offers a complete array of professional editing special effects.
The hardware provides Alpha channel, fades, mixes and wipes, supers (in
crawl and scroll modes), advanced frame capture for complex graphics,
four-level keying, 90-degree image mirroring, and scalable digital video
in 1/256th window-frame increments. In addition, the hardware supports
Gamma correction, video cropping and full-color bars in video input and
output modes.

"We've created the ultimate in professional grade, yet low-cost, desktop
video," says Mitchell Phan, ASL's vice president. "No one comes close to
offering the ability to see two separate full-motion images with a vast
range of digital editing effects in this price range. It brings the high
performance features of professional editing studios just another step
closer to the desktop. "

Suggested list price is $1095. The product is available now.

ASL's MegaMotion multimedia video card can accept and display two
flicker-free, full-motion (30 fps) images with 4:2:2 YUV on any Windows
3.X-based PC. With the board's built-in special effects, users can display
multiple windows that show transitional effects of more than one video
input signal.

The card includes an on-board SVGA adapter with 1 MB of VRAM and a 2 MB
frame buffer to hold video images, eliminating the need for a separate
graphics accelerator card. And, MegaMotion supports the popular AVI file
format for complete Microsoft Video for Windows compatibility as a
standard for Windows-based desktop presentations.

In use, a desktop video publisher can easily combine one "live" motion
video source and another decompressed source from the hard disk. Display
windows can be manually sized or pre-set sizes can be chosen from the
software. Video output supports video signals in either composite video or
the popular S-Video (Y/C) format. The board includes S-Video connectors
for both input and output as well as the SVGA connector.

Advanced compression features provide hardware JPEG compression for capture
and playback of files in real-time from the hard disk. Compression ratios
can be changed to meet image quality and storage requirements of the
user.

The board includes linear, chroma, luminance and alpha keying.

The freeze-frame feature can capture images in real-time and outputs them
to all popular formats -- including TIFF & TGA files -- using a standard 2
MB frame buffer memory. There is no upper limit to system memory.
Freeze-frame also offers applications for industrial security: allowing
multiple cameras to display video in up to 16 frames.
