Open Sesame! Version 1.1 Ships

The First Learning Agent Now Supports Power Macintosh and Sports Speech
Savvy Features

Cambridge, Massachusetts -- May 15, 1994 -- Charles River Analytics today
announced that version 1.1 of Open Sesame!, the first software assistant
that learns a user's routine desktop tasks and automates them, is
shipping. Open Sesame! version 1.1 is a native application written
specifically for the Power Macintosh computer. Built with learning agent
technology, Open Sesame! sits on the desktop, observes user actions in the
background, learns repetitive patterns, and automates them after approval.

Open Sesame! observes the user working at the Finder and application level
and automates a variety of operations on folders, applications, documents,
windows and other desktop objects. Open Sesame! increases user
productivity by reducing mouse clicks and enables the average user to take
full advantage of advanced System 7 features like aliases and stationery
without effort.

The new version now puts dynamic work sets on the desktop or Apple Menu, or
in the startup items folder, in response to user specified actions.
Additionally, Open Sesame! can now remind the user of important events.
All the user has to do is type in the remind message and choose the time
or event that triggers this message, and Open Sesame! will notify the user
either by dialog box or voice.

In addition to dynamic work set, and a remind features, Open Sesame! 1.1
now includes speech synthesis and voice recognition capabilities. On Power
Macintosh computers, Open Sesame! 1.1 can speak new observations and
respond to voice commands. On 68K-based Macintosh computers, speech
synthesis requires the Speech Manager and speech recognition requires an
AV model. Open Sesame! 1.1 monitors not only the high-level events
generated by the mouse and keyboard, but also those generated by voice
commands, to find repetitive patterns for automation. For instance, if the
user repeatedly opens the Mail application every day at 9 am, Open Sesame!
will speak the following observation to the user:

Commander, I notice you frequently open the Mail every day at 9 am. Would
you like me to automate this task?

All the user has to do is say "Automate", and Open Sesame! will do the
rest. Open Sesame! uses Apple events in monitoring user actions. The
functionality of Open Sesame! will increase as more and more applications
support the Apple Event Core suite. Power users can use Open Sesame! with
AppleScript and other macro utilities for unprecedented power with ease of
use.

Open Sesame! has received enthusiastic endorsements from the press. The Mac
Manager column of MacWEEK said, "One that knocks my socks off is called
Open Sesame! from Charles River Analytics Inc. of Cambridge, Mass... the
simple fact is that Open Sesame! works smarter for me. It might just
herald a new wave in Mac smartware." Users in corporate, government, and
educational sites have found Open Sesame! easy to use, intuitive, and
indispensable as a daily tool for increasing overall productivity.

Open Sesame! 1.1 is available in a fat binary form that contains both Power
Macintosh and 68K-based Macintosh versions. Version 1.1 is a free upgrade
to registered 1.0 users. The future versions of Open Sesame! will
incorporate several features exploiting the superior speed of PowerPC
processor-based Macintosh computers. "The Power Macintosh will enable us
to incorporate several learning features to Open Sesame! thanks to the
vast processing power available for background tasks on the Macintosh with
PowerPC." said Alper Caglayan, President of Charles River Analytics.

Open Sesame! is now available through Ingram Micro and leading resellers in
the United States. The suggested retail price for Open Sesame! is $99.
Open Sesame! requires an Apple Macintosh computer running System 7.0 or
later and 500K of free memory.
