PORTABLE COMPUTING, COMMUNICATIONS AND IDEAS, ON THE MOVE AT PC EXPO, JUNE
28-30, AT JAVITS CENTER

Mobile Computing Pavilion Exhibitors Showcase New Products and Services;
PCCA and PCMCIA to Exhibit, New Portables Seminar Track for Users

(Fort Lee, NJ, May 24) -- Portable technology for mobile computing and
communications -- and its many applications as business solutions -- will
drive more than ever before, this year's PC EXPO in New York. The Twelfth
Annual computer trade show, June 28-30, at the Javits Convention Center,
will feature an expanded Mobile Computing Pavilion, informative services
from two major associations, and a new Portables conference track.

Mobile Pavilion exhibitors will include: Abstract R&D, Apex Data, AT&T
Paradyne, Maxtor, Megahertz, Mobileware, the PC Memory Card International
Association (PCMCIA), Portable Computer and Communications Association
(PCCA), PreMax, Silicom, Smart Modular, Xircom and others.

The PCMCIA Gallery will be a centerpiece of the Mobile Computing Pavilion.
Many companies from the more than 600 PCMCIA members that produce and
support PC memory cards -- peripheral devices that supply expanded memory,
storage, LAN, fax/modem and wireless capabilities to mobile and desktop
PCs -- will display their technology as a mobile standard.

Brendan McGuire, PCMCIA executive director, said, "The mobile computing
market is exploding on a global scale, and PCMCIA is at the forefront as a
major enabling influence. As one of the industry's major trade shows, PC
EXPO's Mobile Computing Pavilion is the perfect venue to showcase the
broad range of PC card products available in the PCMCIA Gallery."

On the show floor, other exhibitors will showcase portable technology,
including: Apple Computer, AST, Compaq, Dell, Digital Equipment Corp.,
Hewlett Packard, IBM, Motorola, NEC, Panasonic, Sharp, Texas Instruments,
Toshiba and Zenith Data Systems.

The PCCA will sponsor a meeting during PC EXPO on June 29, from Noon to
1:30 p.m., in Room 1D03/04 of the Javits Center. Andrew Seybold, president
of the PCCA, said the association is addressing critical issues. For
example, PCCA member companies have developed a new standard common AT
command set for modem configuration and control that includes wireless
extensions usable across all packet and circuit switched wireless data
networks.

"The PCCA is currently addressing standards for data compression, standards
for data security, and will be working with the F.A.A. and the airlines to
establish standards that will ensure that use of portable devices will not
interfere with airline navigational systems," said Mr. Seybold.

The new Portables Track at PC EXPO will include four sessions exploring
different topics, but sharing the real-world business applications focus
of the PC EXPO in New York conference program. The sessions are, "The Role
of PDAs in the Office," "Wireless Technology in Mobile Computing," "Remote
and Field Applications for Mobile Computing," and "Next Generation
Portables." These sessions are part of the overall conference program,
which encompasses 55 sessions, that will run concurrently with the show.
