Commetrex Announces The Shipment of MultiFax for VBX and PowerFax
Developer Software and Applications for Fax Development on PC Voice
Boards

Norcross, GA - May 5, 1994 . . . Commetrex Corporation announced today the
immediate availability of the PowerFax product family which includes
PowerFax, PowerFax Developer's Toolkit (APIs), PowerFax LAN Server, and
PowerFax Enhanced Printer Driver (EPD). The PowerFax product family
provides developer's tools, applications and APIs for creating and
managing facsimile documents in a MultiFax-based system. MultiFax for VBX
adds comprehensive Group 3 fax capability to the VBX line of voice boards
from Natural MicroSystems (Natick, MA).

PowerFax is an OS/2 Presentation Manager application for managing,
creating, editing, sending and receiving facsimile documents. PowerFax
LAN Server is a client/server application which provides the functions of
PowerFax over a Local Area Network. It offers facilities to maintain user
privacy and security by receiving faxes into private directories or
mailboxes. PowerFax Developer's Toolkit allows the developer's
application to access all of PowerFax's features through an OS/2 DLL. The
PowerFax Enhanced Printer Driver, a true OS/2 printer driver, provides the
developer a comprehensive set of commands to create documents for fax
transmission within an application.

PowerFax and PowerFax LAN Server pricing is determined by the number of
lines used, with prices ranging from $150 for a single-line license to
$7,500 for a 60-port license. PowerFax LAN Server is $700 for up to 10
users and $2,000 for an unlimited number of users on a server. The
PowerFax Developer's Toolkit is $995 and the PowerFax Enhanced Printer
Driver developer's kit is $299. The PowerFax product family has been
certified by IBM as "Available and Ready for OS/2" and "Available and
Ready for LAN Server".

According to Martin Lippman, Vice President of Marketing, at Commetrex: "We
are offering PowerFax to our developer customers because it can
significantly improve their development productivity. With PowerFax,
developers can add fax to their applications in a fraction of the time it
would take to develop these facilities themselves. The PowerFax product
family offers an excellent resale opportunity to our developers either as
a standalone application or as an integrated enhancement to their
telecommunications application. The combination of PowerFax and MultiFax
offers the fax developer an unmatched combination of power, flexibility
and cost-effectiveness. No other product combination available today
offers such a range of capabilities at such attractive pricing."

MultiFax for VBX , available since June 1993, is an OS/2-based, software-
only product which adds multiline Group 3 fax capabilities to the Natural
MicroSystems VBX family of PC-based voice boards. MultiFax takes
advantage of the open-DSP architecture of the Natural MicroSystems (NMS)
VBX multiline voice-processing product line by adding software-defined
Group 3 fax capability to the NMS voice boards. MultiFax runtime software
licenses are available from Commetrex for $250 a port. Commetrex is
currently porting the technology to NMS's Alliance Generation product
line, announced last March.

Today, most developers of PC-based multiline voice and fax systems use
specialized boards for each function. However, with MultiFax, developers
of these systems, including fax servers and fax mail systems, will now be
able to create Group 3 fax applications on the same VBX boards that
currently only support voice.

The MultiFax software is downloaded to individual VBX ports, within
milliseconds, when a fax function is needed by the application. This
means that the developer can add Group 3 fax without using scarce PC
slots, without incurring the expense of dedicated fax boards and without
causing the end-user to pay additional telephone costs for dedicated fax
lines. There is a significant functional benefit as well because
developers can use MultiFax to dynamically transition a port or ports
between voice and fax at the request of the caller. Thus, a voice call
initiated from a fax machine can request a fax transmittal on the same
port at the conclusion of the voice conversation. A separate fax
call-back is not required.

According to Martin Lippman, Vice President, Marketing, at Commetrex:
"MultiFax provides the same Group 3 functionality as popular dedicated
multiline fax boards, but with the added benefits of no additional
hardware, up to 12 ports of voice and fax on one VBX board, and dynamic
port configurability. MultiFax accomplishes this while costing the system
developer less per port than any other existing multiline fax product."

The MultiFax OS/2 development kit, which includes a four-port license,
costs $1,750. Run-time licenses start at $250 per port, with significant
volume discounts available.
