Apple Announces New Servers Based on PowerPC Processors and Networking
Plans with Novell

CUPERTINO, California--April 25, 1994--The Apple Business Systems (ABS)
Division of Apple Computer, Inc. today introduced powerful new Reduced
Instruction Set Computing (RISC) Workgroup Servers and outlined plans to
work with Novell, Inc. to give both Apple and Novell customers greater
choice in selecting the hardware and software platforms that best fit
their networking needs.

The Apple announcements highlight its server strategy and industry support
for making its new PowerPC processor-based Workgroup Server systems
attractive to more customers, including those requiring distributed
cross-platform solutions.

In a joint announcement with Provo, Utah-based Novell, Apple announced its
intentions to work with Novell to implement NetWare 4 on Apple PowerPC
microprocessor-based servers. The agreement is part of a plan designed to
provide customers with the scalability and extensive feature set of
NetWare 4 and the leading price/performance characteristics of PowerPC
processor-based systems.

Apple also announced its intention to provide DOS and Windows users with
access to Apple's local area network (LAN) software services. This will
allow users in mixed workgroups-- those using both Apple Macintosh
personal computers and Windows-based PCs--to more easily share information
and work together with the same ease-of-use that has always been available
for Macintosh networks.

Ten major independent software vendors (ISVs) also announced their support
for the new Workgroup Servers. Many of the applications and client/server
software have been optimized to take advantage of the performance of the
PowerPC architecture.
