New Product Announcement - SuperLink for Windows

Washington Computer Services announces the release of SuperLink, the
multimedia software product for use with Microsoft Windows 3.1. Designed
as the replacement for IBM LinkWay Live (tm) for DOS, it can import
existing LinkWay folders into the SuperLink format for use under Windows.
SuperLink was developed by Larry Kheriaty, the author of all previous
versions of IBM LinkWay, and it maintains an overall compatibility. Users
of LinkWay or LinkWay Live will find it familiar and comfortable since it
uses the same folder, page, and object structure.

SuperLink runs on any Windows 3.1 system with a minimum of a 386 and 4MB
memory. Any standard MPC is supported, though not required. Virtually any
printer supported by Windows can be used to print SuperLink pages.
SuperLink supports any size display, and any size page window. Pages can
be scaled up or down in size in real time and can be scrolled in either
dimension. Multiple folders can be open simultaneously in separate
SuperLink windows.

SuperLink is suited for personal multimedia use as well as professional
multimedia publishing. The LinkWay family of products has been widely
accepted in the classroom, and used at home and in the office. Many
commercially successful CD-ROM products have been authored and published
with LinkWay.

Text handling is enhanced in SuperLink to permit the use of any font
installed on the computer with optional bold, italic, shadowed, or
embossed enhancements. Text editing follows the standard Windows
conventions for use of mouse and keyboard to mark, cut, copy, and paste
sections of text. The new prose object permits a scrolling window of text
complete with a very easy-to- use markup editor for adding color
highlights, text enhancements, and trigger words for hypertext actions.

Picture objects permit the use of clipped or stretched images which can be
scrolled and/or stretched in real time. Native picture formats that can be
displayed without any conversion are BMP, DIB, GIF, PCX, JPG, FIF
(fractal), Kodak Photo CD, and all LinkWay Live picture formats: PCM, PCV,
PCJ, and PCZ. All pictures can be displayed on all display screens --
picture display is completely display device-independent and supports
pictures and displays up to 24-bit true color mode. Special display
effects -- wipes, fades, etc. -- can be selected to happen automatically
when any particular page or picture is displayed.

Button objects can be displayed as any of the built-in icons, as a sign, as
a Windows push-button, or as any user-created bitmap. Button actions
include go, link, find, help, document, text popup, picture popup, and
scripts. The full LinkWay script language is supported along with
enhancements for Windows such as direct calls to DLL's and the WinExec
statement to launch other Windows applications. Scripts can also control
the size and placement of the SuperLink window on the screen, even to the
point of making the SuperLink folder run in full screen mode (no extra
Windows stuff showing.)

The new Control Objects provide access to various Windows user-interface
features. Control objects are the horizontal and vertical scroll bar, the
single- or multiple-select list box, the check box and radio buttons.

Multimedia is supported via built in media objects for the common media
types and access to the full Media Control Interface so that any media
with a Windows MCI driver can be directly controlled. Built-in media
objects that can control media by simply putting the object on the page
are: AVI video playback (Video for Windows), WAV audio playback, CD audio
playback, Videodisc control and video overlay (live video in a window on
the page).

Some SuperLink objects use resources outside the folder -- such as
pictures, WAV audio, AVI video, etc. In all cases, the resources reside in
standard file formats compatible with other Windows programs. The files
can be created/edited by any means and can be located anywhere on the
local hard drive, CD-ROM or on a network. If a folder is to be transported
or published, SuperLink provides the Gather Resources menu command to
simplify the process of bringing together all files used by an
application.

SuperLink is available as a single-computer license or as a site license.
The site license version is network-compatible and can be run on any
number of computers or networks within a site (defined as an area with a
one-mile diameter.)

For those who wish to publish material created with SuperLink, an unlimited
royalty-free runtime distribution license can be purchased for a one-time
fee. It provides the software necessary to run (but not edit) your
application on the target Windows system. It also provides a SETUP program
which will install your application on the target Windows system (solving
a messy problem for the Windows software publisher.)

Washington Computer Services provides a full range of support services
including training for SuperLink at your site.
