U.S. ROBOTICS ANNOUNCES API DEVELOPMENT SET FOR TOTAL CONTROL, PROVIDING
INTERFACE FOR CUSTOM APPLICATIONS

SKOKIE, Ill. -- May 2, 1994 -- U.S. Robotics, Inc. today announced the
TCP/IP API Development Set for its Total Control Enterprise Network Hub
and Total Control Transaction Processing Hub WAN communications systems.
The new API development set allows Total Control customers to write custom
applications to meet specific communications needs. The product will be
available in May, 1994.

APIs, or Application Programming Interfaces, provide "hooks" for
development of custom applications. The Total Control TCP/IP API
Development Set will be used by U.S. Robotics customers to write
applications for a variety of uses, including protocol conversion,
point-of-sale transaction processing and specialized security.

The product is available in both Ethernet and Token Ring versions, and is
designed for use with the Total Control Transaction Processing Hub, the
Total Control Enterprise Network Hub and the new Total Control Enterprise
Network Hub/6.

Using the API set, developers can customize application programs to have
access to all DNIS and ANI call routing information handled by the system.
This makes it possible to pre-process incoming data packets, convert or
compress data formats, collect statistics, emulate higher-level
application protocols, consolidate network traffic and more.

The TCP/IP APT Development Set includes a TCP/IP API Development Gateway
Card and the appropriate Ethernet or Token Ring Network Interface Card
(NTC). The development set also provides all the software necessary to
create custom applications, including hardware drivers and TCP/IP protocol
stacks. There are four APIs included in the set, providing communication
with each of the four primary external interfaces on the TCP/IP API
Development Gateway Card.

The four APIs are: Packet Bus API This API is used by the application
software to communicate with other network application cards in the
chassis via the Packet Bus. It also provides full-duplex data exchange and
call control functionality to Total Control Quad Modem Cards.

LAN API The LAN API is used by the application software to send and receive
data to and from a LAN host.

Systems API This API is used to obtain system information, such as system
date and time; it also provides access to configuration information and
hooks to network management.

Operating System API The Operating System API provides an interface to task
and memory management.

The Total Control Transaction Processing Hub, the Total Control Enterprise
Network Hub and the new Total Control Enterprise Network Hub/6 are WAN
communications systems designed to integrate analog and digital
communications in a single chassis. The product line serves both WAN
communications needs and transaction processing needs.
