U.S. ROBOTICS ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC RELATIONSHIP WITH INTERNATIONAL VERIFACT,
POINT-OF-SALE SUPPLIER

Verifact to Market U.S. Robotics Total Control Systems as Part of Complete
Point-of Sale Solution

SKOKIE, Ill., -- May 9, 1994 -- U.S. Robotics, Inc. today announced a
strategic relationship with International Verifact, Inc., a point-of-sale
(POS) terminal supplier. Verifact will resell U.S. Robotics' Total Control
Transaction Processing Hub and Enterprise Network Hub as part of a
complete point-of-sale solution. Total Control provides an interface
between Verifact's POS terminals and central site network equipment. Terms
of the agreement were not disclosed.

"Our relationship with Verifact strengthens our position in the transaction
processing market," said Jonathan Zakin, U.S. Robotics executive vice
president. "Verifact's position as a major POS supplier increases our
presence in this market, and also opens the door for technology exchanges
to help us further develop our transaction processing products."

"Partnering with U.S. Robotics allows us to integrate networking, software
and terminal products into a total systems solution for our clients," said
George Whitton, International Verifact's Chairman and CEO. "I am looking
forward to working with U.S. Robotics, as they enhance our position in the
North American market and share our commitment to quality, security and
standards."

In a common transaction processing environment, information from a credit
or debit card would be entered into a Verifact POS terminal, which would
in turn transmit the information over dialup telephone lines to a central
site, dialing in through the Transaction Processing Hub. The Transaction
Processing Hub, via its integrated X.25 gateway card, would then transmit
the information to a server on a packet-switched network for
verification.

U. S. Robotics' Total Control Transaction Processing Hub reduces
verification times for credit card, point-of-sale, and inquiry/response
transaction processing applications by interfacing with local exchange
carrier T-l services, such as Feature Group B and D. Its companion
product, the Total Control Enterprise Network Hub, enables organizations
with remote locations, telecommuters and mobile employees to aggregate
their dial traffic onto T-l lines, route it onto a local area network and
provide access to corporate resources.

Both products use a common architecture, which consists of a l Gbps
midplane, and circuit and packet-switched buses to minimize processing
time. Through downloadable software-defined technology, U.S. Robotics can
easily modify and enhance its products to take advantage of new and
emerging technologies; additionally, its chassis architecture allows for
flexible use of modem and gateway cards, providing custom solutions for
data communications applications.
