U.S. ROBOTICS ANNOUNCES PRICING FOR NEW "V.EVERYTHING" COURIER MODEMS
SUPPORTING EVERY HIGH-SPEED PROTOCOL

New Courier Modems Include V.32 terbo, V.Fast Class, Free FLASH ROM Upgrade
to ITU-T V.34 Standard

SKOKIE, Ill., -- May 9, 1994 -- U.S. Robotics, Inc., today announced
pricing on its new line of Courier modems, which support V.Fast Class,
V.32 terbo and the forthcoming ITU-T V.34 standard for 28.8 Kbps. Pricing
on the new "V.Everything" modems ranges from $545 to $795; the products
include a free, software-downloadable upgrade to the V.34 standard. The
new Courier modems will ship in early May; the V.34 upgrade will be
available in June.

The Courier "V.Everything" products are the first and only to support all
three major high-speed protocols: AT&T's V.32 terbo (19.2 Kbps);
Rockwell's V.Fast Class (28.8 Kbps); and V.34, the forthcoming ITU-T
standard for 28.8 Kbps. The modems are the only products to provide
universal compatibility at the highest speed possible.

Based on a new Courier modem platform, the new products are FLASH
ROM-based, for software-downloadable upgradability. Using U.S. Robotics'
proprietary, DSP-based data pump, this architecture provides the
flexibility to include multiple high-speed protocols.

"Compatibility is a key concern for both our resellers and our customers,"
said Michael Seedman, U.S. Robotics vice president and general manager,
personal communications products group. "The new Courier platform provides
a level of compatibility that no other company can match. We're providing
the most connectible modems on the market for a very reasonable price,
which puts us in an excellent position to capture the 28.8 Kbps modem
market."

The company is currently finishing a field trial of the new platform, which
began in mid-March. Modems will begin shipment upon completion of the
field trial. The new Courier products and prices are as follows:

Courier V.34 Ready Fax with V.FC and V.32 bis -- $595
Courier V.34 Ready Fax with V.FC and V.32 bis (internal) -- $545
Courier Dual Standard V.34 Ready Fax
     with V.FC and V.32 bis -- $795
Courier Dual Standard V.34 Ready Fax
     with V.FC and V.32 bis (internal) -- $ 745

The products will be available in external and internal versions, with
optional HST and HST Cellular capabilities. HST is the company's
proprietary protocol for 16.8 Kbps, providing compatibility with the
installed base of HST modems; HST Cellular, introduced last year, provides
high-speed cellular data transmission.

The new Courier modems include several advanced features, including Quick
Connect, for shortened connect times, dial security, call selection,
remote configuration and V.25 bis, for synchronous environments. The
products will also include U.S. Robotics' proprietary Adaptive Speed
Leveling (ASL) for increased throughput on Courier-to-Courier
connections.

Additionally, the products provide ITU-T V.42 and V.42 bis error control
and data compression, as well as backward compatibility with V.32 bis,
V.32 and other standard modem protocols.

U.S. Robotics will provide an upgrade path to the new platform from
previous products; most Courier V.32 bis and all Courier V.32 terbo
products are field upgradable via a daughter-board swap. Older model
Courier modems may be traded in through a program the company will
implement this summer.

The company will continue to ship its current Courier V.32 terbo modems,
reducing pricing to bring them into line with the new products. This new
pricing is effective May 9. New Courier V.32 terbo prices follow:
