WEITEK SECURES PORTFOLIO ASIC DESIGN TOOL LIBRARY LICENSE FROM ASPEC
TECHNOLOGY

Cost-effective Library Speeds High-end Graphics Chip Sets to Market

Santa Clara, CA -- May 2, 1994 -- Aspec Technology, Inc., a provider of
enabling technology and services to application specific integrated
circuits (ASIC) users and semiconductor manufacturers, announced today
that Weitek Corp., Sunnyvale, CA, has purchased its Portfolio family of
ASIC design tools. Weitek is a leading supplier of high-end graphics chip
sets and associated devices. No value was given for the license.

Howard Gopen, Weitek's vice president of operations, said, "We now have the
best of all possible ASIC worlds. Using Aspec's Portfolio, we believe we
can get to market sooner now that we're independent of conventional ASIC
vendors. Plus, we're now in the application specific standard products
business in a more cost-effective way. The Portfolio library also makes it
easier for us to work with our silicon suppliers, and as necessary,
transport designs between them."

The Portfolio license provides Weitek with the ability to independently
create low-cost 0.8 micron ASIC gate array and embedded array products.
The turnkey product incorporates Aspec's advanced HDA (high density array)
technology and provides the ability to rapidly and predictably design
high-density, high-performance ASIC circuits. HDA is a standard and
reliable architecture, an advance on the industry-standard Sea of Gates
invented by Dr. Conrad Dell'Oca, Aspec's president and CEO.

The Portfolio product family includes a complete design library integrated
with all popular third-party CAD tools. User designs can then be
multiple-sourced and produced by third-party silicon suppliers, all with
rapid design and production turnaround, at lower cost. Because of its
inherent fast time to market and low cost attributes, the technology is
expected to have a significant impact on the PC and peripherals industry.

Weitek has already built several devices which used the Portfolio library
for the design phase, including a Windows accelerator and a video
co-processor. As part of the licensing relationship, Aspec will also
provide Weitek with value-added ASIC engineering and design services for
its product family.

Aspec's Dr. Dell'Oca said, "Weitek's choice of our Portfolio product family
gives them freedom to get to market faster, and control their costs
through ASIC self-sufficiency. This is another milestone toward our
acceptance as the new ASIC standard."

Weitek Corporation is a leading supplier of processors and controllers that
enhance the performance of standard operating systems, user interfaces and
applications software. The company's graphics and multimedia products
bring workstation class performance to the personal computer. Weitek is
headquartered at 1060 East Arques Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086, telephone

ASPEC'S HDA TECHNOLOGY

The Aspec ASIC design technology provides a turnkey design capability with
all methodology, technology libraries, software, compilers and megacells
necessary to design complex gate array or embedded array ASICs. Aspec's
Portfolio product line and services are built upon its proprietary HDA
(high-density array) industry-standard Sea of Gates architecture, which
significantly increases the density over competing architectures. A major
feature of HDA is the design flexibility, based on the company's Portfolio
design library, as well as the speed of design completion, lower power
dissipation and reduced chip costs. HDA technology features improved
densities of 27% or greater for any process technology, with over 500,000
available gates using 0.8 micron process -- the reason why Aspec gate
arrays have been designed into over 100 high-volume personal computer and
other digital signal processing applications.

Aspec Technology, Inc., has signed strategic manufacturing agreements with
three leading semiconductor manufacturers -- Samsung Semiconductor Corp.,
Seoul, Korea, Sanyo Semiconductor Division, Osaka, Japan, and Thesys
Microelectronics, Erfurt, Germany, -- in its quest to establish its HDA
technology as the ASIC industry worldwide standard.

The entry of Aspec and its manufacturing partners in the ASIC market
creates a new ASIC power with an aggregated revenue rank in the top 20 of
ASIC suppliers. k is estimated that total design and production bookings
for the group (based on Aspec's technology) approached $100 million in
calendar 1993. Estimated bookings for 1994 exceed $200 million.

Aspec, is a fast-growing, privately-held company that has been profitable
since its founding in late 1991. Founders and top management are senior
executive alumni of well-known major Silicon Valley companies. Aspec is
located at 830 East Arques Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94086, telephone
408/774-2199, fax 408/522-9450.
