Unique new spectrophotometer can take full UV/Vis spectra of submicroliter
samples

May 18, 1994 -- SpectroPette incorporates a proprietary optical system
together with the latest electro-optical technology to create a
revolutionary new design that outperforms the traditional
spectrophotometer in sample volume and convenience.

SpectroPette is the first spectrophotometer that can take a UV/Visible
spectrum of a 0.6 microliter sample with a 10 mm light path. Light
pathlength can be easily adjusted from 1 mm to 50 mm. The longer light
pathlength and smaller volume significantly increase the sensitivity in
terms of total analyte, e.g., 0.1 nanogram of DNA can be easily detected,
comparable to the sensitivity of fluorescent technique.

SpectroPette incorporates the spectrophotometer into a micropipette so that
the measurement can be done directly in the sample vial -- much easier and
quicker than with a conventional spectrophotometer -- allowing nearly 100%
of the sample to be recovered. Samples can be loaded, analyzed, and
unloaded in less than five seconds.

Sophisticated computer software included with the system is available in
both Windows and Macintosh versions. Every function button is on the
screen, allowing easy instrument control.
