PowerBASIC Helps DOS Programmers Move to Windows

SAN JOSE, Calif.----March 15, 1994----PowerBASIC, Inc. announced today at
the Software Development Conference the release of the PowerBASIC
Professional Edition which includes the award winning PowerBASIC DOS
programming language plus the PowerBASIC Developer Kit for Windows 3.1
(PBDK). The PBDK, which includes the Dolce Vita technology from SummerSoft
of Paris, France, is the easiest way yet for DOS BASIC programmers to port
their code to Windows.

PBDK encapsulates the Windows API, and offers the first simplified method
of programming for an event-driven environment. With this new tool
developers can retain most of their familiar procedural programming
techniques. Developers can simply program in PowerBASIC or move their
other BASIC programs to PowerBASIC and then use PBDK to convert their
programs to Windows applications quickly and easily.

"For some time, BASIC programmers have asked us to help them move their DOS
code to Windows. No one wants to discard years of exhaustive work just to
move to a new platform. The investment is just too great." reported Bob
Zale, President of PowerBASIC, Inc. "Now with PBDK, developers can create
native-code applications without losing their source code investment. They
also retain the fast execution speed of a native-code compiler, just as
they did under DOS."

"Programmers will quickly embrace the true preemptive multi-tasking
capabilities offered by PowerBASIC and PBDK," commented Philippe Monteil,
President of SummerSoft. "The Dolce Vita engine in PBDK acts as server to
many concurrent client applications, opening up opportunities not offered
by other tools for Windows."

To further protect programming investment, PBDK is compatible with resource
editors from other publishers. Development and debugging with PBDK is
safer as well, because each application runs in its own virtual machine
via preemptive multitasking. Support is included for the DDE protocol,
Clipboard access, and DLLs, including those created by third party
vendors.

PowerBASIC Professional Edition will be available in the second calendar
quarter of 1994 at a suggested retail price of $299. Registered users of
PowerBASIC 3.0 can purchase the PBDK upgrade for $149 by calling (800)
780-7707 or (408) 659-8000. PowerBASIC, PC Magazine's Editor's Choice, is
published by PowerBASIC, Inc., a privately held software company based in
Carmel, Calif.
