Visix Software Announces Galaxy/C++ First True C++ Cross-platform
Development Environment

RESTON, Va. -- Visix Software Inc. announced Galaxy/C++, a true C++
implementation of its Galaxy Application Environment. Galaxy is a
comprehensive cross-platform development environment for creating
large-scale, mission-critical applications that are graphical and
distributed. Galaxy/C++ offers the same feature set and functionality as
the C version across all supported platforms, including UNIX, Macintosh,
Windows 3.1, Windows NT, OS/2, and OpenVMS.

"Galaxy/C++ is the first real C++ cross-platform development environment,"
said Jay Wettlaufer, chairman, president and chief executive officer of
Visix. "Galaxy/C++ is not just a set of wrappers around the Galaxy C
library. It's a native implementation which takes full advantage of
important C++ features such as subclassing, overloading and inheritance."

Galaxy/C++ uses the inheritance mechanism provided by the C++ language. All
standard user interface objects supplied with Galaxy are implemented as
C++ classes. The subclassing of objects--the primary mechanism for
customizing objects is done at compile time. Galaxy/C++ developers are
able to take advantage of several features associated with using an
object-oriented programming language including an inheritance mechanism
which provides for customization of existing classes via subclassing,
enforced encapsulation of data and behavior, and polymorphism.

About Galaxy

Galaxy enables developers to create a completely portable application by
abstracting all the system services an application needs. Applications
built using Galaxy are both portable and able to exploit the most advanced
capabilities of each target platform. Galaxy provides a superset of the
capabilities of native toolkits. Instead of struggling with manually
porting applications to multiple toolkits, such as the Macintosh Toolbox,
Windows SDK, Motif and OPEN LOOK toolkits, developers can write an
application once using the Galaxy API.

Pricing and Availability

Galaxy/C++ will be available directly from Visix for UNIX (SunOS, Solaris,
HP-UX, Ultrix, AIX, OSF/1 and IRIX), Macintosh System 7, Windows NT, OS/2
version 2.1, and OpenVMS platforms. Galaxy/C++ is priced at $12,100 per
developer seat with no run-time fees. The C version is priced at $9,600
per developer seat with no run-time fees.
