MCI AWARDS ALLDATA SUBCONTRACT TO SUPPLY AUTOMOTIVE INFORMATION TO
CALIFORNIA SMOG FACILITIES

9,000 "Smog Check" Stations Will Be Linked To ALLDATA's Diagnostic and
Repair Information Database

February 13, 1995 -- Elk Grove, CA-- A joint effort between ALLDATA
Corporation, MCI and the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) will
soon enable smog inspection facilities to access vital emission-related
diagnostic and repair information required to properly repair vehicles
failing a Smog Check test. The program will also standardize emissions
reporting and eliminate reliance on the traditional paper "Smog
Certificate."

Recent legislation mandated a state government program providing
communications and central database services linking smog check facilities
with the BAR and the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA). A key feature
of the network will be to provide accurate, detailed automotive diagnostic
and repair information to the repair shop, thereby providing a valuable
tool for a technician seeking to bring a vehicle into full compliance with
emission standards before being certified. ALLDATA Corporation's
Automotive Repair Database was chosen to provide that service because of
its exclusive online availability and its superior quality and ease of
use. "Technicians' current reliance on outdated paper repair manuals or
past experience to repair today's emission failures isn't enough. Giving
Smog Check stations online access to ALLDATA's information will go a long
way toward correctly repairing failed vehicles and subsequently meeting
the State's requirement to clean up the air," said Arnold Gold, Vice
President of Marketing at ALLDATA, who has worked extensively with MCI on
this project.

Smog Check facilities will access ALLDATA's database through ALLDATA's
online service, ALLDATA-LINK, which provides the most comprehensive and
up-to-date electronic database of automotive diagnostic and repair
information available. The ALLDATA database currently contains over one
million electronic pages of information, including some 650,000 images and
illustrations, covering all domestic and most foreign makes and models for
the years 1982 to the present. (Technical Service Bulletins and Recall
information for years prior to 1982 will be available as well.)

ALLDATA-LINK is the only online service of its kind capable of sending text
and graphics over phone lines. Smog-check technicians will be able to
access and view (or print) vehicle-specific, emissions-related diagnostic
and repair information in a matter of seconds using simple menus and a
mouse.

"The State of California needs to have up-to-date repair information on
vehicles being tested through its Smog Check stations," said Louis
Bonsignore, Deputy Director, California Department of Consumer Affairs.
"The successful implementation of the new program will provide an
important step toward enabling California to obtain the clean air
objectives announced by the EPA."

ALLDATA Corporation has been providing electronic automotive diagnostic and
repair information to repair facilities nation-wide since 1988. The
ALLDATA database is available on CD-ROM as well as online via modem.
Extensive information is available, including technical service bulletins,
diagnostic and repair procedures, wiring diagrams, maintenance schedules,
trouble code diagnostic charts, PROM ID updates, component test
specifications, labor rates, part number and prices and warranty and
recall information.

For a complimentary "Take A Test Drive" demo disk which shows what's in the
database and how to use it call ALLDATA at 1-800-697-2533.
