ANCOR TAKES THE LEAD FOR THE FASTEST LOCAL AREA NETWORK

Gigabit switch to enable ultra-high bandwidth applications for
workstation/server clustering, storage and imaging

Minneapolis, MN -- March 14, 1995 -- The world's fastest local area
networks (LANs) are now available from Ancor Communications with today's
announcement of a new family of products based on ANSI-standard Fibre
Channel technology. The FCS 1062 Fibre Switch family features an active
switching hub offering 1.062 Gigabits per second (Gbps) full duplex per
channel, leading to an aggregate bandwidth of over 200 Gbps. The company
also announced adapter cards that allow popular workstations, servers and
personal computers to connect to Ancor's Fibre Channel LANs.

"When it comes to performance, scalability, data integrity and
standardization, no other LAN technology comes close to the advantages
offered by Fibre Channel. The bandwidth provided by this switch is nearly
seven times faster than the most advanced ATM switch available, and over
20 times faster than FDDI," said Steve O'Hara, Ancor president and chief
executive officer.

"Ancor's Fibre Channel products provide the bandwidth required for
applications like workstation clustering or uncompressed medical imaging.
And, because Fibre Channel has guaranteed data delivery, there is no fear
of loosing data as there is with other technologies."

Chris Leblanc, Analyst for Ryan Hankin Kent Inc. said, "The need for high
speed connectivity already exists in medical, scientific and video
production environments. In addition, gigabit connectivity is becoming
increasingly significant to the mainstream commercial market. High
bandwidth and low latency are becoming requirements for backbones and
backend processing of large databases. Ancor's switch is significant
because it is the first to allow a large number of clients, servers, and
storage devices to connect at full gigabit speeds. It allows users to
start implementing scalable, high bandwidth solutions today."

The World's Fastest Network

The FCS 1062 Fibre Switch, a Fibre Channel switch capable of full-duplex
data transfer rates up to one Gbps per channel between up to 192 devices,
is the core of the company's announcement. Delivering massive bandwidth
with extremely low latency, the switch uses Ancor's patented
two-dimensional space switching and time division technology. In most LAN
technologies, each device on the network competes for a fixed supply of
bandwidth. This is in contrast to Fibre Channel technology which provides
the full rated capacity of the circuit for every pair of communicating
nodes. This dramatically increases the aggregate bandwidth of the network
to over 200 Gbps and eliminates the problems associated with network
congestion.

The FCS 1062 joins Ancor's existing switch product, the FCS 266 Fibre
Switch, which is capable of transfer rates up to 266 Mbps full-duplex
between communicating nodes. Both products comply with ANSI X3.230 Fibre
Channel standard.

Connectivity for Popular Platforms

The company also announced two new adapters for connecting workstations to
the company's switch products. The FCS 1062 PCI Adapter resides in
workstations using the PCI bus. The FCS 1062 SBus Adapter connects
workstations from Sun Microsystems to Ancor's Fibre Channel networks. Both
adapters will also be offered in 266 Mbps versions and will be available
during the second quarter of 1995. Ancor also offers adapters for other
bus architectures including VME/64, MCA and EISA.

Pricing and Availability

Prices for the FCS 1062 Fibre Switch start at $39,500. The FCS 1062 SBus
Adapter is priced at $4,995. The FCS 1062 PCI Adapter is priced at $3995.
All of these products will be available during the second quarter of
1995.

The FCS 1062 Gigabit Fibre Switch and associated adapters will be the
centerpiece of Ancor's demonstration network running at the NetWorld +
Interop 95 trade show (North Hall, booth number 1026) being held March 28
- 30 in Las Vegas.

Bandwidth-intensive networking applications such as workstation clustering,
medical imaging, simultaneous transfer of voice/video, computer animation
and others will be demonstrated.

Fibre Channel is a standard networking technology defined by the American
National Standards Institute (ANSI) featuring guaranteed delivery and
transfer rates up to 4 Gbps per channel. The technology is supported by
over 70 member companies of the Fibre Channel Association.

Ancor Communications Incorporated (Nasdaq Small-Cap Market: ANCR) is the
leading provider of networking products based on Fibre Channel, an
ANSI-standard communications technology used to build the world's fastest
local area networks. The Company's products include Fibre Channel
switches, adapters, routers and application-specific integrated circuits
(ASICs). Ancor was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in Minnetonka,
Minnesota.
