DIGITAL CONTRIBUTES TO "The Information Society Showcase" EXHIBITION AT G-7
MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE ON THE INFORMATION SOCIETY

Brussels - 24 February, 1995 - Digital Equipment Corporation, the world's
leader in open client/server solutions from personal computing to
integrated worldwide information systems, actively participates in two of
the showcases at the Exhibition staged as part of the Group of Seven (G7)
Ministerial Conference on the Information Society, hosted by the European
Union in Brussels, on February 24-26.

In the first showcase, Digital Equipment Corporation and 2001 S.A., the
leading European company for cartoon animation production, are presenting
a revolutionary animated cartoon creation system, called TicTacToon.

The demonstration features one of the many aspects of multimedia
information publishing. TicTacToon is a professional fully-computerised
animated cartoon creation system. Combining the most powerful tools
available today, including automatic lip assignment, TicTacToon also
provides a common animation base across multiple language communities.
Making full use of the "Global Information Highways" thanks to the various
Internet Enablers and the 64-bit computing power of Digital's Alpha
Servers, TicTacToon gives optimum possibilities for work distribution and
re-use of artwork between networked studios all over the world, allowing
artists to combine their creative efforts in international
co-productions.

As a member of the NIIT (National Information Infrastructure Testbed), a
Consortium led by U.S. Corporations, Digital Equipment Corporation
participates in a second showcase, Earth Data Systems. This showcase
demonstrates earth data access and deforestation analyses from Brazil and
Indonesia, enhancing world-wide cooperation between academia and
government decision-makers.

These showcases illustrate two very different aspects of the Global
Information Society.

The G-7 Ministerial conference is the first official opportunity for
discussion and negotiations around the information society on a global
basis. The aim for the G-7 governments is to develop consensus and common
understanding on the challenges of bringing about a Global Information
Society with the overall objective of citizens access. The focus is on 3
themes: - information infrastructure: access to it, interoperability and
applications; - regulatory framework and competition policy; - social and
cultural aspects.

"Digital supports the goals of the G7 Conference," confirmed Robert
Bismuth, Digital's Director of Corporate Standards. "Digital's commitment
to distributed processing and networking goes back to its very origin.
This expertise positions the company as a main contributor in solving the
major problem for the Global Information Society, enabling operating
systems, applications and computers to talk to each other for the benefit
of people worldwide."

"Digital has been in the forefront in developing networking applications.
Through its Internet Business Group, defining and developing Internet
products, servers systems and solutions, Digital puts its expertise at the
service of its customers, helping them achieve business results from the
use of Internet and Inter-networking technologies. Digital's scalable
Alpha platforms, storage, networking, software and services, together with
industry-focused solutions from business partners, help organizations
compete and win in today's global marketplace."

Fostering international partnerships with industry, government and
academia, Digital will continue to invest in the deployment of the Global
Information Society. The Tic Tac Toon showcase is a perfect example of the
type of collaboration between the private and public sector that will
occur more and more frequently within the Global Information Society: a
partnership between an SME and a multinational, supported by the EC
Commission.
