DIGITAL ANNOUNCES INDUSTRY'S FIRST PC-BASED SOLUTION TO COMBINE MULTIVENDOR
NOS AND SNMP MANAGEMENT

MAYNARD, Mass. -- March 21, 1995 -- Digital Equipment Corporation today
announced ManageWORKS Workgroup Administrator, the industry's first
management platform to combine multiple network operating system (NOS)
administration with distributed simple network management protocol (SNMP)
support in a single package. With this introduction, supervisors
responsible for administering a multi- vendor environment now can easily
and cost-effectively manage multiple PC networks and devices from a single
console.

By reducing the hardware, training and personnel required to control
multiple workgroups from different vendors, ManageWORKS Workgroup
Administrator offers superior productivity with unsurpassed flexibility.
From a single Windows user interface, ManageWORKS provides local or remote
management of Novell, IBM, Microsoft and Digital PC local area networks
(LANs), as well as distributed SNMP hubs, bridges, routers, switches and
PC servers, dramatically reducing wide area network management costs.

The unique, fully distributed nature of ManageWORKS allows administrators
to share operational data anywhere on the network to improve management
efficiency and planning. In addition, the ability to distribute SNMP
management applications across PC LANs and global corporate networks
reduces network traffic and cost. This set of capabilities, previously
available only in much more expensive solutions, provides ManageWORKS
users with the tools to build an open, distributed, multi-level management
environment.

"Our goal is to simplify the job of administrators who face the daunting
task of managing multiple, heterogeneous local area networks," said Faye
Allen, group marketing manager for Network Integration Software at
Digital. "By offering ManageWORKS Workgroup Administrator, we are
extending our solution to reach all network managers who must not only
cope with a mix of Novell, IBM, Microsoft and Digital PC networks, but
also must manage the devices within those LANs."

Along with the unveiling of ManageWORKS, Digital announced that a network
of 30 business partners have agreed to sell and distribute the product
worldwide.

"This impressive list of partners is a reflection of Digital's commitment
to expand our distribution efforts through indirect channels to reach a
broader range of customers," said Allen. "We expect that the number of
partners will continue to grow as demand for the unique benefits and
productivity of ManageWORKS Workgroup Administrator increases."

Digital offers a software developers' kit (SDK) and a comprehensive support
program for independent software developers (ISVs) to integrate their
applications with ManageWORKS, extending its functionality beyond
multi-NOS and SNMP device management. A number of applications for the
ManageWORKS environment are available today, including NetCon asset
management software from CapaCity, AuditWare network auditing software
from Preferred Systems, HelpSTAR automated help desk reporting software
from Help Desk Technology, the LANDesk Management Suite from Intel, and
HUBwatch from Digital. The ManageWORKS framework also is compliant with
OLE 2.0, providing the foundation for further integration with other OLE
2.0-enabled applications.

ManageWORKS is available today at a U.S. list price of $995. The SDK is
priced at $195. Upgrades for existing users of PATHWORKS ManageWORKS are
priced at $495 until April 15 ($795 thereafter).

The minimum configuration for ManageWORKS Workgroup Administrator is a
386/33MHz PC with 8MB memory and Windows 3.1 or higher. Installed easily
on many laptop PCs, ManageWORKS also offers managers the ability to
perform network troubleshooting in a mobile environment.

Digital Equipment Corporation is the world's leader in open client/server
solutions from personal computing to integrated worldwide information
systems. Digital's scalable Alpha platforms, storage, networking, software
and services, together with industry- focused solutions from business
