Synopsys Launches in-Sync Partnership Program for Multi-Vendor Design Tool
Integration

Customer-Driven Partner Program Includes 16 Charter Members

March 23, 1995 -- Synopsys today announced in-Sync, a highly-focused, EDA
vendor partnership program for providing joint design solutions based on
Synopsys' and in-Sync partner design tools. The program, unveiled at the
Fifth Annual Synopsys Users Group (SNUG) Conference in San Jose, currently
includes 16 in-Sync charter members. Through in-Sync, Synopsys is working
with other EDA companies to provide mutual customers with high-quality
software and support, as well as formal mechanisms for evaluating the
effectiveness of joint solutions on an ongoing basis.

The two primary goals of the program are: to meet mutual customer
requirements for joint solutions; and to quickly drive new technology to
market, leveraging advanced technology from Synopsys and in-Sync
partners.

There are three types of in-Sync partners: Solutions Partners, Broadline
Partners and Focus Partners. The extent of the relationship depends upon
the significance of customer overlap between the two companies, the
breadth of Synopsys products involved in the solution and the depth of
integration required to meet customer requirements. Partnerships are
re-assessed and evaluated on a quarterly basis by means of a formal
customer evaluation process.

"Our objective is to maximize customer productivity," stated Aart de Geus,
President and CEO of Synopsys. "Through in-Sync, we're putting a solid
structure in place for working with other EDA companies to provide mutual
customers with a set of tools that work well together. The really exciting
opportunity here is to work at a deeper level with partners to bring new
technology to market faster than either of us could independently."

in-Sync is focused on a limited partner set and driven entirely by customer
demand. To become an in-Sync partner, a company must have 6 to 12
customers in common with Synopsys and identify several reference accounts
committed to working with both vendors to define, test, and validate the
effectiveness of the solution on an ongoing basis.

"We believe the key to a meaningful program is to select a few key partners
and to continually improve the quality and depth of our relationships with
them," said Jennifer Smith, in-Sync product line manager. "We expect the
criteria for participating in our program and evaluating joint solutions
will be tougher than prospective in-Sync partners have experienced with
similar programs."

Flexible, Tiered Program for Maximum Impact

Once mutual customer interest has been verified, the new in-Sync partner
becomes a Solutions Partner. The partner is given access to power tools
for ongoing testing and mutual support of a common design flow, and
Synopsys begins to maintain steady communications with the partner on
product plans.

"We have worked closely with Synopsys to ensure that our VHDL and Verilog
output has been optimized to work efficiently with Synopsys synthesis and
simulation products," stated Ray Moritz, President and CEO for i-Logix, an
in-Sync Solutions Partner. "Our customers have used these tools together
to successfully produce ASICs of over 200,000 gates on the first-pass of
silicon."

When there is high customer overlap in multiple product areas, the
proactive nature of the relationship increases and the partner moves into
the next category: Broadline Partner. The two companies share development
schedules and exchange pre-production software. Synopsys and the partner
train their respective field offices and the two companies work closely to
market their joint solution and to resolve customer issues together.

"We're pleased to have an established relationship with Synopsys," said Dr.
Moe Shahdad, Strategic Program Manager for Viewlogic, an in-Sync Broadline
Partner. "Through this program, we have used Synopsys software to create
standard flows between PowerView and Synopsys synthesis tools."

If working with another vendor will drive new technology and development,
the relationship becomes even more synergistic and moves into the deepest
category: Focus Partner. At this point, a Synopsys business unit
representative manages and "owns" the in-Sync partner relationship with
the goal of openly sharing technology to deliver innovative new solutions
to mutual customers and the broader market place.

"Through the Synopsys relationship we have built a solid link between
Synopsys' synthesis, Floorplan Manager and our Design Planner system that
is actively used by such companies as AMD, Brooktree, and Silicon
Graphics," stated Bob Wiederhold, chief operating officer for High Level
Design Systems, Inc, an in-Sync Focus Partner. "With in-Sync, we have the
support we need through Synopsys' central partner group and a deep
relationship with technical and marketing drivers on the synthesis team."
