NEWER'S POWERPUMP ACCELERATOR SWITCH HITS FOR OPTIMUM 040 AND 601 CARD
PERFORMANCE

When you sell Quadra 700, 90 and 950 customers a 601 Power Mac upgrade
card, they generally expect that they will be able to process native
language applications at speeds competitive with Power Mac models. But
unless you also include a PowerPump Accelerator from Newer Technology,
you're setting your customer up to be dissatisfied. The fact is, a 601
card alone will fall well short of PowerMac-caliber performance. That's
because the 601 card will only double the 040 clock speed. So the 25MHz
clock speed of the Quadra 700 doubles to 50MHz -- far short of even the
slowest Power Mac. A Quadra 950 will only be accelerated to 66MHz.

But with a PowerPump Accelerator from Newer Technology, a Quadra will
process files at speeds between 72MHz and 80MHz. It independently
accelerates the 040 CPU as well -- from 25 to 32 percent faster. These
speeds are possible because our unique design breaks the 601 card's
dependence on the 68040 CPU and enables variable speed settings without
flipping dip switches.

PowerPump displays a screen for speed ranges on each clock as part of the
Control Panel menu selection. So you can set the processor to run
applications that are Power Mac native at the maximum speed possible for
each individual computer's configuration.

A design that recovers a lost slot and lets two CPUs talk to each other.

PowerPump features a two-card design with one card installed in the ROM
SIMM socket (which is rarely needed for any other purpose) to accelerate
the 040 CPU. The second PowerPump card fits neatly into the NuBus slot
that would otherwise be blocked from use by the 601 upgrade card. So
PowerPump lets you keep your other NuBus and PDS slots open for future
system expansion.

The ability of the two cards to work in tandem pushes the performance of
the Power Mac upgrade card beyond stock Power Mac speed. PowerPump allows
the user to maximize 040 performance without limiting 601 performance.
Whether booting up in 601 or 040 mode, the computer is brought up to the
speed settings determined by the Control Panel.

Heat sink fans are included for each CPU which actively cool the CPU chips
for reliable performance.
