Nokia Display Products Brings Next-Generation Picture Quality to U.S.
15-inch Monitor Market

New Multigraph Monitor Features Trinitron CRT with Dynamic Focus and
On-Screen Menu

SAUSALITO, California, March 20, 1995 -- Nokia Display Products, Inc.
(NDPI), the award winning supplier of advanced computer monitor technology
and a subsidiary of $6 billion Nokia of Finland, announced today its
newest high performance color monitor for the U.S. market, the 15-inch
Multigraph 449X.

Manufactured in Finland, the Multigraph 449X brings Nokia's very latest
picture quality refinements to 15-inch monitor users with an anti-glare,
anti-static coated Trinitron CRT and the Nokia-pioneered on-screen menu to
optimize screen parameters.

The 449X has a scan rate from 31 to 62 kHz and boasts a 0.26mm Trinitron
aperture grill, allowing it to deliver an exceptional resolution of 1024 x
768 at 76Hz.

Already Proven in European Markets

Nokia introduced this product to the European market at CeBIT in March of
1994 to wide acclaim from discriminating ergonomic- and
performance-conscious European users. According to Mahyar (Mac) Motraghi,
NDPI vice president of marketing and sales, "We saw demand for this
product developing first in European markets where frontal screen
performance has long been a fundamental purchase criterion. In the States,
brand marketing and price wars have been the dominant rules of
competition. Since then, Nokia has succeeded in changing those rules in
the U.S. by basing its monitor brand name on performance, advanced
ergonomic engineering, and continued leadership in emissions control
(Nokia pioneered both TCO and MPR II emissions standards). A dozen
editorial awards since the Multigraph product line was launched attest to
Nokia's ability to compete on this basis for the long term."

U.S. Market Readiness

Priced at $625 (MSRP), the Multigraph 449X complements NDPI's award winning
Multigraph 449E 15-inch monitor priced at $575 (MSRP). According to Mark
Tomko, president of Nokia's U.S trading company and marketing firm.
"Eighteen months ago the experts told us that the entire Nokia product
line was over-designed for the U.S. market. We've clearly proven
otherwise. Nokia monitors are now preferred by discriminating U.S.
corporate and home users. "Nokia wants no part of the 15-inch low quality,
low price market. We believe there is significant demand for 15-inch
monitors driven by desk space limitations, both in corporations and in the
home. A large percentage of this market segment demands the best possible
monitor they can get, and the Multigraph 449X meets that requirement."

The Multigraph 449E, by contrast, will remain a highly desirable general
purpose 15-inch monitor. Last year it won the coveted PC Magazine Editor's
Choice Award, and the Home Office Computing Editor's Pick Award,
establishing it as the best 15-inch monitor in the country. Now Nokia has
moved a full generation ahead in performance and ergonomics with the
Multigraph 449X.

Engineered for Broader Markets

The Multigraph 449X will please users in a wide range of applications, and
also addresses a market segment previously not served by 15-inch monitors.
According to Motraghi, "The ambition to offer perfect picture quality has
always been confined to bigger size monitors for professional use, such as
CAD/CAM applications. But with our introduction of the new 15-inch product
we are bringing the same corner-to-corner picture quality to other user
categories."

The most obvious advantage of the aperture grill tube is dynamic autofocus.
For the first time, even a 15-inch monitor offers a sharp focus in the
whole picture area. Light output is also much higher than with the
traditional Invar shadow mask monitors.

Compatibility & Availability

The 449X comes compliant with the VESA DPMS power saver standard and is MPR
II compliant. The Multigraph 449X autosyncs with any desktop computer
system, includes a Macintosh adapter, and carries a three year warranty.

Standard NDPI Quality and Features

Like all NDPI monitors, the 449X monitor includes NDPI's FullScreen, a
feature that eliminates the black border found on most monitors, expanding
the viewable application area by up to 10% without distortion. European
research has shown this solution reduces eye-strain. The 449X comes
standard with many NDPI-pioneered features and picture quality
enhancements not found on most monitors.

On-Screen Controls

The on-screen menu offers by far the most user control of any product on
the market, including brightness, contrast, color temperature, focus,
pincushion, picture height, width, position, tilt, trapezoid,
orthogonality, horizontal/vertical convergence, RGB, synchronization, high
contrast on/off, preset recall, degaussing, power saver on/off, and
multiple language selection. Nokia pioneered this feature in its 21-inch
Multigraph 445X monitor, and since then the rest of the industry has
followed that lead.

Technology Pioneering Track Record

NDPI also pioneered horizontal convergence, white uniformity and color
temperature technologies, and has been a consistent forerunner in
commercialization of advanced power saving and emissions shielding
technologies. Nokia offered the first Energy Star and MPR II monitors in
the world, and was the first to offer monitors compliant with the rigorous
TCO specification and its low electromagnetic emissions requirements.
