OLICOM ANNOUNCES SECOND GENERATION TOKEN-RING PCI ADAPTER

March 21, 1995, Copenhagen, Denmark - Olicom, a leading provider of
high-performance network solutions, today announced its second generation
Token-Ring PCI adapter. The new adapter provides an increase of up to 7%
over the performance of the nearest competitive product. Last June, Olicom
was the first vendor to announce the release of a Token-Ring PCI adapter
to market.

The new adapter combines Olicom's PowerMACH device driver technology and
advanced ASIC design to achieve high performance levels. PowerMACH drivers
use an advanced parallel processing technique that improves overall
adapter performance by allowing several processing tasks to be performed
simultaneously. Furthermore, Olicom provides two modes of data transfer
for this adapter to enable operation of the adapter in both master and
slave slots. The high performance of the PowerMACH drivers has been
verified in Ziff Davis Labs tests, in which Olicom's current ISA card
consistently outperforms all others. PowerMACH drivers are pre-defined in
all major network operating systems.

Based on the adapter's high performance, support of industry standards, and
upgrade options for more bandwidth, the new PCI adapter provides a range
of LAN cost-optimization benefits. The adapter is fully Plug and Play
compliant to make installation quick and easy. The adapter is prepared for
the emerging Full Duplex Token-Ring standards now being finalized. Support
for Full Duplex operation, which effectively doubles the throughput of the
card, will be available through a software upgrades as soon as the
standard is defined. Support of the Desktop Management Interface (DMI)
standard is also provided to enable increased adapter management
capabilities in environments that support DMI.

"The release of this adapter demonstrates Olicom's commitment to providing
our customers with high-performance products that leverage the potential
of emerging technology standards such as the PCI architecture and DMI,"
said Robert Fowler, Product Manager at Olicom. He continued "We firmly
believe that, in it's class, this is the most complete offering on the
market today. We have expended considerable resources to ensure that this
product provides tangible cost-of-ownership benefits to it's users. This
is evidenced by our support for both PCI master and slave slots, a
comprehensive range of utilities designed to reduce support costs and the
adapters readiness for Full Duplex operation. This adapter represents the
best investment for Token-Ring users migrating to the PCI architecture."

Installation and Configuration

The new Token-Ring PCI adapter, like all new Olicom adapters, supports the
Plug and Play functionality defined in the PCI specification. Plug and
Play allows complete automatic configuration of the adapter in PC
platforms supporting the standard.

Included with the new Token-Ring PCI adapter is an improved installation
utility providing a user-friendly DOS or Windows interface to simplify
adapter installation and configuration. It includes Help files
(implemented in Windows Help files environment) which provides key
information from the printed Guide to Operations for the adapter. This
makes it easier to access user information during installation and
configuration.

Also included is Adapter Information for Windows (AIW), a powerful adapter
management utility developed by Olicom. This utility provides easy access
to hardware and software configuration details, as well as information
beneficial to the network administrator such as system files, error
reports and network traffic information. AIW also offers real-time
graphical displays of network traffic to and from the workstation.

In addition to the management capabilities provided by AIW, the adapter
provides support for the DMI standard. DMI was developed to simplify the
management of networked resources in future operating systems and
applications. Effectively, DMI will enable network administrators to tune
network performance and more efficiently troubleshoot network problems.

The new Token-Ring PCI adapter supports an SNMP desktop agent so that
important information about the workstation and it's network traffic can
be accessed in network management systems such as IBM NetView, HP
OpenView, and other SNMP-compliant systems.

Pricing and Availability

Olicom's new Token-Ring PCI 16/4 Adapter is currently shipping in volume at
a suggested retail price of US$ 399.

The adapter meets the requirements of IEEE 802.5 and IEEE 802.2 and is
fully compatible with IBM Token-Ring standards. Device driver support for
the adapter is available for all major network operating systems including
Novell NetWare, Microsoft LAN Manager and Windows NT Advanced Server.
