Circle Systems Announces PentaFix

New Program Eliminates Worksheet Errors Caused by Flawed Pentium Chips

Seattle, WA, March 10, 1995--Circle Systems today announced PentaFix, a
Microsoft Windows-based program that forces Excel and Lotus 1-2-3 to
recalculate worksheets that may have been incorrectly calculated on
machines with flawed Pentium chips.

Users are discovering that replacing the flawed Pentium chip on their PC
does not guarantee that their worksheets will then display correct
results. If a worksheet error was created by a flawed chip, that error
will still be displayed after the chip has been replaced. This occurs
because Excel, 1-2-3 Release 3.x, and 1-2-3 for Windows do not
automatically recalculate worksheets when they are reloaded into the
program. Furthermore, after a worksheet has been reloaded, a formula will
be recalculated only when a cell referenced by that formula is changed.
For example, if a formula calculates the ratio of cell A1 to cell B2, the
only way to cause the formula to be recalculated is to re-enter the value
of either cell A1 or cell B2.

Users of Excel and 1-2-3 cannot override this behavior. There are no
options to set or keys that one can press to guarantee that all formulas
are recalculated. As a consequence, the only way to assure that a
worksheet that was initially saved on a flawed Pentium machine is correct
is to re-enter enough data to make sure that each formula is recalculated
-- a tedious and error-prone process at best.

PentaFix, according to Circle Systems, provides a solution to this problem.
It searches for worksheets and then sets internal flags so that they will
be automatically recalculated when they are reloaded into 1-2-3 or Excel.
The user can specify that the program search for and fix individual
worksheet files or sets of files, or automatically scan for and fix the
worksheets on an entire drive.

The program, according to Dr. Steven Dubnoff, the president of Circle
Systems, is "fast, safe and efficient. It really takes the worry out of
the Pentium problem for spreadsheet users." Dr. Dubnoff noted that even
users who never had a flawed Pentium chip may be using worksheets from
other sources. "They can never know if those worksheet were calculated and
saved on a machine with a flawed Pentium. The only way to be sure is to
scan their drives with PentaFix."

The Windows-based program will ship at the end of March and will be priced
at $49.00 for a single copy. Multi-unit and site license discounts are
available. Circle Systems is located at 1001 Fourth Avenue, Suite 3200,
Seattle, WA 98154, (206) 682-3783, (800) 366-3794 or fax (206) 328-4788.

Circle Systems, founded in 1986, publishes a line of programs that move
data into and out of worksheet files. These include Stat/Transfer, the
General Ledger Reporter, and RoundTrip, the only program that puts data
into worksheet files with automatically generated formulas.
