Solectek Announces 25 Mile Wireless LAN Bridge

AIRLAN/Bridge Ultra Expands Campus Area Network ("CAN") Solution
For Token Ring and Ethernet

LAS VEGAS, NetWorld+Interop, March 28, 1995 -- Solectek Corporation, the
innovator of wireless Campus Area Networks, today announced AIRLAN/Bridge
Ultra, a high-speed wireless LAN bridge capable of transmitting data 25
miles. Available in both Ethernet and Token-Ring versions, AIRLAN/Bridge
Ultra, a four channel bridge which uses the 2.4 GHz radio frequency range,
has been designed for use by companies which desire to link LANs in
multiple buildings within the same city, eliminating costly T1 and
microwave alternatives.

"Solectek's AIRLAN CAN wireless campus area networking solution has been
extended considerably," said Bruce Sanguinetti, vice president of sales
and marketing for Solectek Corporation. "Now, the combination of our
wireless solutions can cover any type of campus, such as hospitals,
manufacturing plants, school districts, even entire cities. The addition
of the Ultra provides Solectek with the widest range of solutions to meet
the accelerating demand for wireless local area networks."

AIRLAN/Bridge Ultra is configurable as a point-to-point or multi-point
solution. In point-to-point mode, Ultra can bridge LANs or network
segments in separate buildings up to 25 miles apart by utilizing
proprietary line-of-sight directional antennas. In multi-point mode,
utilizing Solectek's exclusive "base station" protocol, multiple buildings
can be interconnected through a central omni-directional antenna with a
radius of six miles.

AIRLAN/Bridge Ultra has been optimized for use as a wireless backbone
within Solectek's campus area network ("CAN") solution. AIRLAN CAN
combines Solectek's wireless bridging products, which includes the
currently shipping AIRLAN/Bridge Plus designed for short range building
links up to three miles, with its other wireless roaming products,
including AIRLAN network adapters and AIRLAN/Access units. This
combination of products enables mobile users to be wirelessly connected to
the LAN in areas covering several buildings or city blocks.

"This offering enhances our bridge offering considerably," said
Sanguinetti. "According to Frost and Sullivan, a national market research
firm, AIRLAN Bridge Plus commands 29% of the market for wireless LAN
bridges. The AIRLAN/Bridge Ultra will increase our price/performance
leadership role in this market."

2.4 GHz Radio Frequency Ensures Reliable Link

AIRLAN Bridge Ultra utilizes spread spectrum radio frequency operating in
the 2.4 GHz ISM band, ensuring reliable links. Unlike other microwave and
long-range radio alternatives, it requires no license to operate.
Installation requires only standard low-loss 75 ohm coaxial cable. The
unique design compensates for cable lengths of 20 to 200 feet, assuring no
reduction in transmission distance, regardless of cable length or antenna
height.

Because it operates in the 2.4 GHz range, the Ultra is an ideal complement
for AIRLAN in-building roaming solutions (AIRLAN/Access, AIRLAN/PCMCIA and
Parallel) which operate in the robust 902-928 MHz frequency range for
optimal radio coverage. By bridging between buildings at 2.4 GHz, and
roaming in-building at 902-928 MHz, the two infrastructures avoid radio
frequency contention, thereby maximizing simultaneous bridging and roaming
communications in the same environment.

2 Mbps; Faster Than T1 - Payback In Less Than One Year

With AIRLAN/Bridge Ultra, LAN administrators can select among four
channels, each having a data-rate of 2 Mbps. This assures that multiple
AIRLAN bridge installations can occupy the same air space with zero
cross-channel contention, allowing for more bridge links per geographical
area without interference or reduction in throughput. As a result, users
can realize performance exceeding T1 and leased lines without the
recurring costs, making the Ultra a very cost-effective alternative that
provides for 100% payback in as little as six months.

Token Ring, Ethernet Versions Work With All Network Operating Systems

Easily connected to either Token-Ring or Ethernet wired networks,
AIRLAN/Bridge Ultra is compatible with all major network operating systems
including Novell NetWare 3.x and 4.x, Banyan Vines, Windows NT, Artisoft
LANtastic, and others. An SNMP MIB provides remote configuration and
system monitoring.

AIRLAN/Bridge Ultra lists for $4,999 (Ethernet) and $5,999 (Token Ring),
and will be available from Solectek certified resellers, system
integrators and VARs, and major distributors beginning May, 1995. Site
surveys and installation assistance are available from Solectek's trained
resellers in your area, backed up by Solectek's exclusive S.W.A.T. field
RF engineering service.

Two Upgrade Programs Available To Bridge Plus Owners

Users who have already installed AlRLAN/Bridge Plus units have two upgrade
options available to them; software only and full retrofit.

** Option 1; upgrade to Bridge Ultra software version 1.4, providing the
same 25% to 40% improvement in throughput, plus the improved antenna
alignment, signal strength, and management tools of the Bridge Ultra while
maintaining the original frequency and range of the Bridge Plus. The
upgrade to Bridge Ultra software 1.4 lists for $299.

** Option 2; a complete hardware retrofit which converts a Bridge Plus into
a full-function 2.4 GHz Bridge Ultra. This option is primarily intended
for users who require the extended range and multi-channel flexibility of
the Ultra. The complete retrofit of a Bridge Plus unit into a Bridge Ultra
lists for $2499.
