3M RECEIVES SPA'S 1995 COMMUNITY SERVICE CITATION

March 13, 1995 (San Diego, CA) -- The Software Publishers Association
granted its Community Service Award to 3M for its Science Encouragement
Program which enhances science education through various outreach
projects. The program is designed to increase children's interest in
science through better teaching and learning.

The Science Encouragement Program improves teaching and learning through
employee-volunteer participation. The program deploys 3M scientists,
engineers, chemists, and physicists to volunteer as guest teachers of
students from kindergarten to college to enhance existing science and math
programs. The 3M volunteers motivate students by bringing an unparalleled
enthusiasm for their profession to teachers, students and parents within
the participating communities.

For nearly forty years, 3M has implemented outreach programs that enhance
educational opportunities for children. Scholarships, tutoring programs,
mentorships, science fairs, research grants and aid, and teacher
development support are aspects of the 3M educational program. In 1994,
3M's cash contributions to educational projects and institutions totaled
$8 million, including grants to more than 500 colleges, universities, and
technical schools throughout the US.

"This program shows foresight and compassion for America's youth.
Encouraging strength in natural sciences and math is crucial to the
software industry's continued expansion," said Ken Wasch, SPA Executive
Director. "3M's Science Encouragement Program will help America thrive in
the high-tech, global economy of the future."

"Our goal is to ignite the imaginations of young people about the natural
and scientific world," said Dave Iverson, Program Manager, 3M Software
Media and CD-ROM Services.

The annual Community Service Citation, now in its third year, recognizes
and encourages outstanding community outreach efforts by members of the
SPA. The awards were presented in conjunction with the SPA's Tenth Annual
Excellence in Software Awards at the SPA Spring Symposium in San Diego.
