TIME WARNER COMMUNICATIONS STANDARDIZES ON SYBASE

Media Giant Selects Sybase Over Oracle and Informix To Build New Phone
Company Division and Enterprise-Wide Operations

EMERYVILLE, CA, March 7, 1995 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise Client/Server
Company, today announced that Time Warner Communications, a division of
Time Warner Cable, will standardize on SYBASE(E ) relational database as
the foundation for its new telephony operations and its company-wide
enterprise client/server information systems. Time Warner Cable's parent
company, Time Warner Entertainment, is one of the world's largest media
companies with annual revenues of $15.9 billion and holdings which include
Warner Brothers and HBO. Time Warner Cable is one of the top two cable
companies in the world and has a subscriber base of 11.5 million homes.

This announcement marks a strategic win for Sybase over competitors Oracle
and Informix, whose technology was also being reviewed by Time Warner, and
reinforces Sybase's position of technological leadership in the RDBMS
market. Time Warner Communications expects the contract to amount to
several million dollars over the next three years in product and
consulting services.

With SYBASE technology, Time Warner will create the platform to run its new
telephone operations based on the company's existing cable franchises that
will compete with local telephone companies nationwide. The Sybase
architecture will allow Time Warner to integrate data for cable services,
telephone, and business services, as well as serve as the basis for Time
Warner's Full Service Network which will provide multimedia consumer
services.

"Sybase provides the fundamental technology for the centerpiece of our
systems strategy--our Corporate Data Platform. All customer, product and
network information resides on the Data Platform and is shared by all
business support and operational support systems. This provides us with a
sustainable competitive advantage in our Information Technology strategy,"
said Mohammad Fahim, Director, Information Systems and Services at Time
Warner Communications. "Sybase's scalable, open architecture is well
suited for the distributed computing requirements of our operating
division."

Competitive Advantage

Time Warner has turned to Sybase to gain a competitive technological
advantage over its competition. With client/server systems architected on
Sybase, Time Warner is implementing an enterprise with a streamlined
client/server architecture and with a dynamic ability to create products
on a Sybase infrastructure. Time Warner currently has implemented a
variety of Sybase database products, including SYBASE SQL Server,
Replication Server, Open Server, and Open Client. Previously, Time Warner
had used Informix technology extensively in their operations.

"The Sybase system translates into immediate competitive advantage for Time
Warner as it will allow them to operate on a technically advanced,
flexible and low cost system," said Dave Peterschmidt, chief operating
officer at Sybase. "Using Sybase as the open architecture underlying all
of Time Warner's systems means that virtually any data needed to run the
company is accessible immediately and instantly, allowing shorter time to
market and faster customer response times for Time Warner in each of their
business divisions."
