NIKE SECURITIES SELECTS SYBASE AS NEW CLIENT/SERVER CORPORATE STANDARD

Sybase is Chosen Over Informix for Financial Company's Re-Defined
Client/Server System

EMERYVILLE, CA, March 1, 1995 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise Client/Server
Company, today announced that Nike Securities L.P., a financial services
company specializing in asset management and capital markets, has selected
SYBASE technology as the new foundation of its client/server computing
system that is currently being built. In a decision to re-define its
enterprise computing requirements, Nike Securities, headquartered in
Lisle, IL, is replacing existing Informix database software with SYBASE
software. Sybase's SQL Server, Open Client, and Open Server were selected
as key components of the company's re-architected client/server system.

Nike Securities' corporate-wide client/server computing system, which is in
phased implementation, will provide corporate employees and customers
immediate and easy access to on-line financial and trading information.
After in-depth evaluation, the company chose to replace the installed
Informix software with SYBASE software based on Sybase's superior support
service programs and the flexibility of its open architecture. In
addition, Nike Securities selected Sybase because of its strategic
alignment with key client/server vendors to provide best-of-breed
solutions.

"Nike Securities execution of a company-wide client/server environment is
essential to our efficiency, productivity, and ultimate viability in the
financial marketplace," said Jerry Conner, director of information
services. "That's why we decided to align ourselves with Sybase for our
current and future client/server technology needs. With its proven track
record in the financial community, Sybase's open architecture,
complemented by superior support services, made it well worth our time to
convert our database to SYBASE."

"We are excited that Nike Securities has selected SYBASE as their new
client/server corporate standard," said Richard Yanowitch, vice president
of corporate marketing at Sybase. "The open architecture of SYBASE will
allow Nike Securities to choose best of breed products from Sybase's Open
Solutions Partners as well as easily adapt to technology changes in the
future."

Implementing the Client/Server Model with SYBASE

Over three years ago, Nike Securities created a plan to build an enterprise
client/server computing system that provides distributed information
processing to both employees and customers. The company decided to
implement this computing system in phases, starting with the process of
getting information on-line. Nike Securities had accomplished this with
the initial database software but then converted it to Sybase after the
company's decision to re-define the client/server architecture.

In the initial phase which is now completed, SQL Server has been installed
on HP 9000 servers to create a back office computing system. This back
office system runs critical order processing, security accounting and
inventory applications. In the second phase, the information generated and
stored in the back office system will be distributed to employee PCs. In
the final stage, the client/server computing system will provide Nike
Securities' customers with on-line, remote access to important financial
information.

Sybase Used by Financial Institutions Worldwide

Like Nike Securities, many financial institutions are moving towards
client/server computing environments as a way to gain competitive
advantages through improvements in system performance, distributed
information, data management and data security. SYBASE software has become
the standard of choice for many leading financial institutions worldwide
including Chase Manhattan Bank, Citicorp Investment Bank, American Express
and Solomon Brothers.
