New Version of At Ease for Workgroups from Apple Offers Better Security,
Administration

CUPERTINO, California--May 15, 1995 -- Apple Computer, Inc. today announced
At Ease for Workgroups 3.0 for the Apple Macintosh personal computer. The
enhanced software product provides an easy, flexible, effective way to
control access to files and applications on shared Apple Macintosh systems
in classrooms, university computer labs, and other networked educational
environments.

At Ease for Workgroups 3.0 now provides security in two distinct
environments, the At Ease desktop and the standard Macintosh Finder,
allowing administrators to choose the interface that best matches users'
ages and computer experience. Administrators can allow experienced
Macintosh users to work within the familiar Finder, while letting children
and novices use the simple At Ease desktop, with its large buttons and
folders.

At Ease for Workgroups also enables mid-level administrators (such as
instructors) to easily modify certain At Ease settings, lessening the
support burden on the primary network administrator. For example, the
network administrator can give instructors the ability to change user
passwords, modify access to shared items, add or remove users from a group
configuration, and add access to a new application. In addition, the
product lets administrators control access to CD-ROMs and floppy disks.
For example, administrators can create a list of approved CD-ROMs,
preventing access to unauthorized CDs. At Ease for Workgroups also
provides new, separate folders for CDs and floppy disks within the At Ease
desktop interface.

Additional new features include:

-- Drop box folders that let students submit assignments electronically
-- A shared access folder that allows members of a group to store
and share commonly used files such as clip art or other graphic
   images
-- More extensive saving options so that documents can be stored on
a floppy disk and/or in a private folder on the local hard disk
   or a designated server
-- New shortcuts that allow administrators to quickly add an
application or file to every group and also make it easier to
   administer user and group lists
-- Enhanced document storage support that allows an administrator
to store users' documents on multiple file servers

System Requirements

At Ease for Workgroups 3.0 requires an Apple Macintosh, PowerBook, or Power
Macintosh computer with a minimum of 4MB of RAM, a hard disk, an Apple
SuperDrive 1.4MB floppy disk drive, and any release of the System 7
operating system.
