VERSION 1.3 OF PATHWORKS FOR OpenVMS (Macintosh) EXTENDS SUPPORT TO THE
ALPHA PLATFORM

new Macintosh-based server management capabilities simplify NOS
administration...

MAYNARD, Mass. -- May 5, 1995 -- Digital Equipment Corporation today
announced version 1.3 of its PATHWORKS for Macintosh client and server
software. The PATHWORKS for OpenVMS server software is now available for
the first time on Digital's performance-leading 64-bit Alpha RISC
platform. The new version of PATHWORKS for Macintosh includes enhanced
server administration, a browser for the Internet Worldwide Web and new
TCP/IP utilities, providing users with expanded capabilities for
integrating and managing diverse desktop systems.

PATHWORKS for Macintosh clients have the ability to share applications,
data, printers and resources, as well as access information from remote
systems on the network. Version 1.3 of PATHWORKS for Macintosh includes
new management capabilities that allow a system manager to administer
users, files, print queues and volumes on OpenVMS VAX and Alpha servers,
all from a native Macintosh application. The Mosaic browser provides a
graphical navigational tool to surf the Internet's Worldwide Web. Also
included in PATHWORKS for Macintosh is support for the TCP/IP V2.0.6
transport from Apple, FTP and Telnet utilities, and a full DECnet Phase IV
implementation.

Servers running PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (Macintosh) version 1.3 provide
commercial-strength file, print and mail services, fully integrating
networked Macintosh systems into the entire organization. With version
1.3 running on the high-performance Alpha RISC platform, a single
PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (Macintosh) server can offer a separate network zone
for each workgroup or department, providing tailored lists of file and
print services available to each group of users. This feature cuts down on
browsing time and makes it easier for users to find the volumes and
printers they need. In addition, PATHWORKS servers now support AppleTalk
for OpenVMS V3.2.

Along with support for Alpha platforms, PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (Macintosh)
version 1.3 also is available for VAX systems, with connectivity to
Digital UNIX* systems provided through the Pacer for Digital UNIX
solution. The PATHWORKS for Macintosh client software lets Macintosh users
access file, print and application services from an unlimited number of
PATHWORKS and Pacer servers without modifications.

PATHWORKS for Macintosh, V1.3 is available today. The PATHWORKS for
Macintosh client is priced at $250, and upgrades from existing PATHWORKS
versions are priced at $99. The PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (Macintosh) server
access is included with the PATHWORKS for Macintosh client.

PATHWORKS for Macintosh is a member of Digital's PATHWORKS family of
networking and network integration solutions for local and wide-area
networks. PATHWORKS integrates the broadest set of PC and server platforms
with the leading network technologies and network operating systems.

PATHWORKS solutions are available for most popular platforms, including
DOS, Windows, Windows NT, NetWare, LAN Manager, UNIX, OpenVMS and OS/2,
and shortly for Windows 95.
