DIGITAL LEADS INTERNET INDUSTRY WITH MOST COMPREHENSIVE SECURITY SOLUTIONS

Digital Unveils Extended Firewall Strategy Including Three Product/Service
Offerings

Littleton, Mass. -- May 8, 1995 -- Digital Equipment Corporation today
announced the industry's most comprehensive firewall offerings that ensure
secure Internet computing for businesses and enterprises of all sizes.
Digital's three-tiered strategy is composed of products with these common
attributes flexibility, scalability and redundancy. The products are a
high-end, sophisticated, customized firewall; a new mid-ranged, flexible,
single-host firewall with expansion capabilities; and a newly-offered
entry-level plug-and-play firewall server.

"While the Internet holds tremendous potential to grow businesses and save
money, companies will be most successful when they protect their files,
e-mail systems or other sensitive internal information from electronic
thieves," said Rose Ann Giordano, vice president of Digital's Internet
Business Group. "Corporations can now depend on Digital and its partners
for leadership in secure on-line environments."

Giordano continued, "We specifically designed our offerings to range from
plug-and-play to completely customized firewalls so that every company can
seize the Internet opportunity."

Digital's three-tiered strategy protects the integrity between trusted and
untrusted environments, typically the Internet, regardless of a company's
internal computing environment, whether it is a simple local-area network
(LAN) or a complex wide-area network (WAN). The entry-level BorderWare
Firewall Server is the product of choice for companies with
straightforward security needs that are seeking to easily harness the
power of the Internet. Corporations and enterprises in the market for a
firewall to secure large numbers of systems connected by private WANs are
ideal candidates for the mid-ranged Digital Firewall for UNIX and the
high-end Digital Firewall Service.

The Digital Firewall Service and BorderWare Firewall Server are currently
available. The Digital Firewall for UNIX will be available this summer.

Digital Firewall Service

The Digital Firewall Service is a high-end software and consulting offering
that delivers a custom-made firewall to meet a corporation's security,
configuration and performance requirements. With this service, unique
security policy needs and special performance requirements are easily
accommodated and incorporated. The Digital Firewall Service also provides
the flexibility needed to balance the contradictory goals of high
performance and tight security. This service is ideal for companies
requiring multi-host robust Internet gateways. Running on an Alpha/Digital
Unix platform, the U.S. entry price for the Digital Firewall Service is
$25,000, excluding hardware.

Digital Firewall for Unix

Digital's new mid-range Internet security solution, Digital Firewall for
Unix, is a pre-configured "out-of-the-box" software product designed to
operate on a single system. It incorporates the most sought-after Internet
capabilities, such as, World Wide Web, Mail, File Transfer, and Telnet.
This application-level firewall is ideally-suited for companies
anticipating future growth and system expansion, requiring increased
performance or needing a flexible security policy. Digital Firewall for
Unix can expand into a multi-box firewall, allowing this mid-range
solution to be scaled gracefully to the high-end as organizations grow,
and custom services and complex security options are added. The Digital
Firewall for Unix runs on an Alpha/Digital Unix platform and has a U.S.
list price of $10,000.

BorderWare Firewall Server

Digital's newly-offered entry-level security solution, the BorderWare
Firewall Server from Border Network Technologies, is a firewall and
Internet server in one. (See separate release for additional details.)
While it protects a company's network from external access, BorderWare
also provides a complete set of basic Internet capabilities, including
World Wide Web, Mail, News, Name Service, Telnet and File Transfer. This
cost-effective firewall is the most advanced plug-and-play security system
available on the market. Depending on the number of systems protected,
BorderWare Firewall Server is available for a U.S. list price of $4,000 -
$11,000 and runs on standard Intel PCs.

Today's announcement is the first in a series addressing security needs for
conducting business on the Internet. Digital and its partners will
announce developments in other key security-related areas, e.g.,
authentication, authorization and information-hiding (encryption), in the
near future. For more information on Digital's Internet security products
