The Sixth Annual Digital World Conference Showcases Innovative
Works-in-Progress of Interactive Media

FOSTER CITY, CA ( May 18, 1995) - Digital Demo Days, a sub-conference of
Digital World's four-track Conference, will take place June 6-7 at the Los
Angeles Biltmore Hotel. The industry's latest enabling technologies plus
twenty works-in-progress will feature the newest developments in digital
multimedia technology. Only works with no previous public exposure will be
showcased. The following session topics will be moderated by Michael
Backes, screenwriter, co-founder of Rocket Science and director of the
American Film Institute's Advanced Technology Seminars.

Leading multimedia and interactive technology vendors, including Apple
Computer, Worlds Inc., Template Graphics Software and Visual Information
Development Inc. will give premier demonstrations of new titles and
technologies.

The Metaverse

One of the many exciting developments to be featured is the growing
universe of real time, on-line 3-D environments. Worlds Inc. will show
their unique multi-user network environments, including Worlds Chat, the
first 3-D chat space. Template Graphics Software will present Webspace, a
World-Wide Web browser add-on which allows interaction with 3-D models and
virtual "worlds" on the Internet. The VRML(Virtual Reality Mark-Up
Language) group will also present what may become the standard for
networked 3-D.

3-D Authoring Tools

Presentations of leading-edge developer tools, created to keep up with the
growing demand for 3-D virtual representations in interactive multimedia,
will demonstrate new capabilities. Apple will showcase both QuickDraw 3D,
a cross-platform, accelerated interface for creating and rendering
real-time workstation-class 3-D graphics, and QuickTime VR, which enables
game and educational software developers to photograph scenes not easily
rendered. Visual Information Development Inc. will demonstrate Presenter
Professional, a desktop alternative to sound stage, studio, or on-location
shoots, offering 3-D multimedia complete with sound, film projection and
animation.

The Independents

Combining technical expertise with creative vision, these developers
independently produced their featured singular works. Showing new original
titles are Robert Winter of Calliope Media and Joy Mountford, a former
Apple interface designer now with Interval Research. In addition, Dr.
Fiorella Terenzi who is representing The Voyager Company has combined her
passions for physics, astrophysics and classical music in an unorthodox
study of the Invisible Universe. This work includes four guided tours
through the Solar System, the Milky Way, Clusters of Galaxies and the
Electromagnetic Spectrum.

The Ivory Tower - Convergence of Higher Education and Interactive Media

Carnegie Mellon University's Computer Science department will showcase the
Informedia Digital Video Library project, an intelligent, automatic
mechanism which provides full-content search and retrieval from an on-line
digital video library. This will allow more independent, self-motivated
access to information for self-teaching and exploration.

In collaboration with Sada Planning of Tokyo, USC's School of
Cinema-Television and Center of Visual Anthropology will demonstrate
multimedia archival CD-ROMs of Chinese culture, created from over 20,000
still frames of 35mm film. Integrated into an HTML format, the system is
capable of linking the collaborating parities in LA and Tokyo, providing
quick updating over the Internet, and ready access for multimedia
production.

Ehrlich Multimedia will showcase Chemistry: a problem-based learning title,
developed by Wiley & Sons, which engages students' natural curiosity to
find solutions to real-life chemistry problems. This undergraduate-level
CD-ROM multimedia software presents scenarios in progress, which students
resolve through the provided Knowledge Base of basic chemistry and other
information. Active discovery and interactive problem-solving optimizes
their learning and retention. The Knowledge Base is also an extensive
multimedia treatment of chemistry, with many interactive features,
including a "virtual Lab", where students can mix chemicals and weigh
objects.

Kids' Stuff

Examples of works that are leading to the next generation of multimedia
software for kids include Ehrlich Multimedia's Paper Circus. This work
allows children to play and learn in a visually stunning virtual world
inhabited by characters with personalities which react to the user, to
other characters and to their virtual environment. Other works from
Cyberkidz Company and Apple Computer, Inc. will also be showcased.A
Hitchhiker's Guide Through the InternetA tour to some of the more unusual
and obscure sites on the Internet and a look at some of the consumer tools
available for building Web sites will be explored.

The Garage Bands

These works were created using whatever resources and equity these
developers could invest. Titles from Ambient Digital Publishing,
StudioSoftware and Sumeria, Inc. will be showcased.

Digital Demo Days represent the digital media industry's latest
achievements from companies producing new technologies and leading-edge
products that are shaping the industry.
