Farallon Delivers First Fast Ethernet Cards for Power Macintosh with PCI

Extends Strategic Relationship with 3Com

ALAMEDA, Calif., May 30, 1995--Farallon Computing, Inc., today announced
the availability of its Fast Ethernet Peripheral Component Interconnect
(PCI) card for Apple's expected Power Macintosh with PCI systems, and an
extension to its strategic relationship with 3Com Corporation. The new
product, Fast EtherTX-10/100, is part of a complete line of Fast Ethernet
products Farallon will provide in 1995 (see separate release). Based on
3Com's Fast Ethernet Parallel Tasking chip set, Farallon's new cards will
give current LocalTalk and Ethernet customers a cost-effective and easy
way to expand the capacity of their LANs and WANs to support increasing
bandwidth requirements of up to 100 Megabits per second (Mbps). The new
product brings traditional Farallon qualities of innovation, economy and
ease-of-use to high speed networking.

"Farallon's mission has always been to simplify leading-edge networking
technologies and turn them into economic solutions for our customers,"
said Alan Lefkof, Farallon's president and CEO. 'With the Fast
EtherTX-10/100 PCI cards, we are continuing that mission."

The product is designed for customers requiring higher bandwidth to support
data-intensive network applications such as those used by engineering,
graphics arts and publication workgroups, as well as publishing and
pre-press graphics companies where users need to quickly share, transfer
and print multi-megabyte color graphics files. Primary schools, which use
multimedia applications in labs, classrooms, and media centers, will also
benefit from Fast EtherTX-10/100 to avoid traffic bottlenecks.

Strategic Relationship with 3Com

Farallon is extending its strategic relationship with 3Com to provide the
only Macintosh Fast Ethernet cards to use 3Com Parallel Tasking
technology. This relationship will allow Farallon's Fast EtherTX-10/100
cards to be among the fastest in the industry. As a result of Farallon's
close relationship with 3Com and in an effort for the two companies to
provide maximum customer convenience, Farallon will make 3Com's high
performance drivers for PCs available for its product. Farallon developed
its relationship with 3Com when it began using 3Com Parallel Tasking chips
in its own award-winning EtherWave products.

Doug Spreng, vice president and general manager of the Network Adapter
Division of 3Com said, "Farallon's leading market presence and Macintosh
expertise will enable 3Com to bring its technology advancements to new
customers. Our earlier work together resulted in an Farallon's popular
EtherWave product line and we believe Macintosh customers can look forward
to more leading-edge products with great price/performance value."

"By combining 3Com's expertise in the PC market with Farallon's Macintosh
networking strengths and-close relationship with Apple, we are jointly
able to be the first to bring PCI-based Fast Ethernet solutions to
Macintosh customers," said Georganne Benesch, director of product
marketing at Farallon.

"Farallon's new Fast EtherTX-10/100 for the next Power Macintosh represents
a compelling high-speed networking solution, taking full advantage of PCI
and PowerPC technologies," said Steve Manser, vice president of Apple's
Macintosh Desktop Systems Division. "Farallon has been on the cutting edge
of Macintosh networking from the beginning and their commitment to the
Power Macintosh with PCI platform serves to further strengthen the
longstanding, close relationship between our two companies."

Protects User Investment and Provides Easy Migration

The Farallon Fast EtherTX-10/100 PCI card provides a seamless,
cost-effective migration from 10Base-T and LocalTalk networks to protect
user investments. The product incorporates a single auto-sensing 10/100
RJ-45 port and can operate on either a 10Mbps 10Base-T or 100Mbps
100Base-TX network for flexibility. This allows users to purchase the card
today to support their existing 10Base-T networks and continue to use the
same cards when they decide to upgrade to 100Base-TX. Users can simply
unplug the connector from the 10Base-T hub and plug it into the 100Base-TX
hub.

Industry Standards Give Users Interoperability

As a leading member of the Fast Ethernet Alliance, Farallon has been
working with more than 70 other vendors to extend the existing Ethernet
standard -- IEEE 802.3 for 100Base-TX -- in response to industry demand
for increased network bandwidth and the need to establish standards for
interoperability among different manufacturers' 100 Mbps Ethernet
products.

Fast EtherTX-10/100 PCI cards support industry-leading operating systems
such as Mac OS, Windows and NetWare. It also includes support for Open
Firmware with on-board boot ROM drivers for true plug-and-play
installation. Further, Open Transport support enables fast throughput and
compatibility with Apple standard software. Finally, the product also
works with standard 3Com drivers for Windows PCI computers.

Pricing and Availability

Farallon's Fast EtherTX-10/100 PCI cards will ship in June, 1995 at an
estimated U.S. street price of $249. The cards will be covered by a
lifetime warranty and can be purchased through Farallon resellers
