Farallon Announces Details of Fast Ethernet Product Line

Strategic Relationships with 3Com and Grand Junction

ALAMEDA, Calif., May 30, 1995--Farallon Computing, Inc., today announced
details and availability of its Fast Ethernet products for Macintosh, and
strategic relationships with 3Com Corporation and Grand Junction Networks,
Inc. Farallon's new products include the Fast EtherTX-10/100 PCI and NuBus
cards, Fast Starlet 100TX/8 hub, and Fast 10/100 Bridge and Fast 100/100
Bridge, providing users with a complete and easy-to-use Fast Ethernet
solution that complies with industry standards and preserves user
investments. Farallon is extending its relationship with 3Com to
incorporate 3Com's Parallel Tasking chip set in its Fast EtherTX-10/100
PCI and NuBus cards, bringing the fastest technology in the industry to
Macintoshes. Further, the repeater technology for the hub is being
licensed from Grand Junction, and like all of Farallon's Fast Ethernet
products, the Fast Starlet 100TX/8 hub provides an easy way for users to
expand the capacity of their LANs and WANs to support increasing bandwidth
requirements of up to 100 Megabits per second (Mbps).

"As a leading member of the Fast Ethernet Alliance, Farallon has been
working with more than 70 other vendors, like 3Com and Grand Junction, to
provide standards-based products for user interoperability," said Alan
Lefkof, Farallon's president and CEO. "With the Fast EtherTX-10/100 PCI
card, we are pleased to be delivering today the first of our 100Base-TX
products."

The products are designed for customers requiring higher bandwidth to
support data-intensive network applications such as those used by
engineering, graphics arts, imaging and publication workgroups, as well as
publishing and pre-press graphics companies where users need to quickly
share, transfer and print multi-megabyte color graphics files. Primary
schools, which use multimedia applications in labs, classrooms, and media
centers, will also benefit from Farallon's line of Fast Ethernet products
to eliminate traffic bottlenecks.

"At Farallon, we design our products to be innovative, cost effective and
easy-to-use," said Georganne Benesch, director of product marketing. 'With
this line of Fast Ethernet products, we are able to bring those
traditional Farallon qualities, that our customers have come to expect, to
high speed networking."

Strategic Relationship with 3Com for Fast EtherTX-10/100 PCI and NuBus
Cards

Farallon is announcing today availability of its 10/100 PCI card (see
separate release) for Power Macintoshes with PCI and a 10/100 NuBus card
for Power Macintoshes, Quadras, and Mac Ils. Based on 3Com's Parallel
Tasking chip set, the cards will offer the highest possible network
performance for desktop Macs and servers to eliminate traffic
bottlenecks.

Both cards have a single auto-sensing 10/100 RJ-45 port to protect customer
investments. The cards can operate on a 10Mbps 10Base-T or 100Mbps
100Base-TX network for maximum flexibility. This allows users to purchase
the card today to support their existing 10Base-T networks and continue to
use the same cards when they decide to upgrade to 100Base-TX. Users can
simply unplug the cable from the 10Base-T hub and plug it into the
100Base-TX hub. Further, no disk or software installation is required
because Farallon's Fast Ethernet drivers are loaded onto an on-board boot
ROM.

The Fast EtherTX-10/100 PCI card provides Open Firmware support for true
plug-and-play operation. As a result of Farallon's close relationship with
3Com and in an effort for the two companies to provide maximum customer
convenience, Farallon will make available 3Com drivers for use with
Windows PCI computers. The card supports Apple's new Open Transport
standard for fast throughput and compatibility with standard Apple
software.

The NuBus card supports classic Ethernet drivers and is compatible with all
standard Apple network software such as MacTCP, MacIPX, MacSNMP, and
AppleShare.

"As one of the pioneers of Past Ethernet, 3Com has the expertise and
technological understanding to produce superior high-speed networking
products that-enable users to maximize today's data-intensive
applications," said Doug Spreng, general manager and vice president of
3Com's Network Adapter Division. "This is especially important for users
in the graphic arts, multimedia and education markets -- key Macintosh
strongholds."

Strategic Relationship with Grand Junction for Fast Starlet 100TX/8 Hub

Farallon will license Grand Junction's repeater chip set to provide a Fast
Ethernet hub for its workgroup, education and small business customers.
Grand Junction was the first company to provide a 100Base-TX hub to the
industry and Farallon is leveraging that expertise and combining it with
its own Fast Ethernet PCI cards, NuBus cards, and bridge to offer a
complete high speed networking solution.

"Our goal is to facilitate the rapid adoption of 100Base-T as the high
performance network upgrade of choice for 10Base-T users," said Jean
Young, product line manager for Grand Junction Networks. "Farallon has
achieved great success in the 10Base-T Macintosh market and is
well-positioned to duplicate this leadership in the 100Base-T market. Our
relationship with Farallon will allow customers to build high speed
networks quickly, confidently and cost-effectively."

The Fast Starlet 100TX/8 is the newest addition to Farallon's family of
simple to use 10Base-T Starlet hubs. The Fast Starlet 100TX/8 is an 8
port, class II workgroup hub with a built-in expansion slot for adding
Farallon Fast 10/100 Bridge and Fast 100/100 Bridge modules. This provides
a simple way of adding Fast Ethernet to an existing 10Mbps Ethernet LAN.

Fast 10/100 Bridge and Fast 100/100 Bridge

The Fast 10/100 Bridge and Fast 100/100 Bridge are customer installable
bridge modules designed for use in Farallon's Fast Starlet 100TX/8 hub.
Like Farallon's other Fast Ethernet products, installation is simple
because there is no software to install or configure. Further, the Fast
10/100 Bridge and Fast 100/100 Bridge provide fast "wirespeed" data link
transmission and LEDs for at-a-glance network management.

The products will provide a flexible upgrade for network expansion and
connectivity to 10Mbps Ethernet networks. Users can build mixed 10/100
Ethernet networks by simply putting workstations and servers that demand
high bandwidth on 100Mbps segments while preserving their investments in
10Mbps equipment.

"A key benefit in implementing our Fast Ethernet offerings is the ability
to interoperate with existing networks," added Benesch.
