Galacticomm, Inc. Releases Worldgroup Manager Client For Free

Ft. Lauderdale, FL -- May 11, 1995 -- In a public announcement on the
Internet today, Galacticomm, Inc. released its Worldgroup Manager client
program for free distribution and use by everyone. The client works as a
full-featured ANSI terminal program and telnet client under Windows 3.1
for calling any online service or BBS. However, when connected to
Worldgroup servers over the Internet or via dial-up modem, it shifts into
a client/server environment that the company calls "a cross between online
services, Web sites, and workgroups."

The Worldgroup server, which began shipping last week, is the next
generation of the company's original flagship product, The Major BBS. Over
20,000 online services worldwide run the Galacticomm platform, and already
over 2,000 have moved up to Worldgroup. The company estimates that over
2,000,000 callers regularly access sites running its software.

Now, with this announcement, anyone running a Worldgroup server can freely
distribute copies of the Worldgroup Manager client to any user or
prospective user of his service. There is no trial period and no
registration fee due Galacticomm, either by commercial users or
personal/entertainment users. Previously, the client was going to be
distributed as shareware for $29.95 per copy.

"Worldgroup is one of the first of a new wave of communications products
that take advantage of the Internet as a global network over which any
client/server application can run," says Scott Brinker, the companys
president and chief executive officer. "In many ways it is a superset of
Web capabilities, and we are delighted to make the client available to
anyone who wants to explore these interactive sites."

Interested users can download a copy of the Worldgroup Manager client from
Galacticomm's own Demo System, which is accessible by modem at
305-583-7808 or over the Internet at gcomm.com. It is also available in
Galacticomm's Software Library on America Online, on CompuServe (just "GO
GCOMM"), or via ftp from gcomm.com/wg/wgclient.exe. There is also a
hypertext link to ftp the client from the company's Web page at
http://www.gcomm.com.

Galacticomm provides the Worldgroup server, which runs on top of DOS on any
486 or Pentium PC, starting at a list price of $795. It includes e-mail,
group discussion forums, file libraries, a registry of users, polls and
questionnaires, and a multi-user teleconference with a shared drawing
board. Each Worldgroup operator can customize multimedia "splash" screens,
icons, and graphic menu backdrops, in addition to configuring the
product's Locks and Keys security to restrict access to particular
services or areas on site. Accounting, tracking, and user statistics lets
the operator control and analyze use of his service for unlimited
"classes" of users.

A Worldgroup Client/Server Developer's Kit for $695 gives customers the
option of creating custom client applications in Visual Basic and new
"agent" services on the server using Borland C++. The company includes
most of the source code to its own applications with this kit, as well as
extensive developer documentation. Already, several dozen Independent
Software Vendors have taken advantage of this open architecture to create
add-on options such as shopping malls, multimedia databases, document
retrieval engines, credit card verification/online checking, multi-player
games, and more.

Galacticomm is a privately held Fort Lauderdale corporation that has been a
leading developer of multi-user communications hardware and software since
1985. The company also offers The Major BBS for UNIX and a wide range of
Internet and multi-modem products. For more information, call Galacticomm
at 800-328-1128 (or 305-583-5990 outside the U.S. and Canada), or send
e-mail to sales@gcomm.com.
