HP ANNOUNCES PRINT SERVER TRADE-IN PROGRAM

"$100 in a Flash" Rebate Program Eases Move to Current Generation Print
Servers Featuring Flash Memory and Multiprotocol Support

Palo Alto, California. May 1, 1995 -- Hewlett-Packard Company today
announced that it is offering a $100 rebate on the purchase of HP
JetDirect print servers with the trade-in of any older HP model. The "$100
in a Flash" rebate program allows users to upgrade inexpensively from HP
legacy print-server hardware to new HP print servers with flash memory,
multiprotocol support and other new features. Flash memory allows network
administrators to perform upgrades over the network without touching or
removing the product.

This special offer runs from May 1 through Oct. 31, 1995.

The rebate program was designed to be flexible for HP-authorized resellers.
Full-service resellers can implement trade-ins at customer sites, or they
can notify customers who could then work directly with HP.

"This program is an excellent opportunity for resellers to initiate sales
within their existing customer base," said Kevin J. Burbank, HP JetDirect
Program Manager. "It also gives resellers an opportunity to add value.
Flash memory enables remote print-server upgrades, which helps reduce the
maintenance load on busy network administrators."

Any HP print server currently in use can be traded in for any of HP's new
print servers with flash memory.

Each of these print servers offers a variety of features designed to make
network printing as easy as personal printing. Aside from flash memory,
each operates under all leading network operating systems, installs easily
and comes with HP JetAdmin and HP JetPrint software for remote management,
and printer-status feedback. With the recently introduced HP JetDirect EX
Plus3 print server, a single LAN connection now can support up to three
parallel printers. Other advanced features offered by the new JetDirect
products include the following:

 - automatic protocol switching;
 - full support for Novell NetWare 4.x, including NDS
   (external print servers, Summer 1995);
 - increased number of NetWare file servers;
 - line printer daemon support for UNIX(R) system-based
   networks and Windows NT;
 - TCP/IP support for Token Ring networks;
 - Windows 95 networking support; and
 - support for HP and non-HP printers using external print servers.

The "$100 in a Flash" rebate program is available in the United States and
Canada. Canadian customers receive a $150 rebate with the trade-in of any
older HP model print server. Information on HP's "$100 in a Flash"
trade-in program can be obtained by calling the HP Fulfillment Center toll
free at 800-789-6234.

HP JetDirect print servers are used to connect HP printers and other
printers directly to networks for superior network-printer reliability,
performance and location flexibility. Since 1991, HP has sold more than
1.5 million HP JetDirect print servers, making it the world's leading
supplier of network print servers.
