New MCA Server from IBM

Providing a bridge between the Micro Channel architecture and PCI
architecture, IBM has announced its PCServer 720. This latest arrival on
the server market has been touted by industry watchers as filling an
important gap in IBM's server line.

The 720 supports up to six 100-MHz Pentium processors and has 512KB Level 2
cache, up to 1GB of 64-bit error checking and correcting memory and a
132Mb PCI bus. Scalability features include 22 device bays, of which 18
are hot-pluggable, and seven PCI or Micro Channel combination slots.

Standard software includes an enhanced version of IBM's NetFinity server
management software. This version features automated system alerts,
including Simple Network Management Protocol alerting, and links with
IBM's LAN NetView and NetView/6000 and HP's OpenView environments, as well
as asset management and user-definable alerts.

IBM's server division recently completed relocating to Raleigh, NC from its
previous headquarters in Boca Raton, FL.
