INFORONICS PUTS THOMAS REGISTER ON THE INTERNET

(NOTE: This release replaces the earlier press release of May 8, 1995)

Littleton, MA -- May 22, 1995 -- Inforonics has created a World-Wide Web
site for the Thomas Register of American Manufacturers that delivers a
database of information on U.S. and Canadian companies. The Thomas
Register is the premier publication of its kind, used by more purchasing
agents and engineers than all other major industrial buying guides
combined. The Register contains over 150,000 manufacturing companies
listed under 52,000 product and service categories, giving users a high
probability of finding a source for any product.

"This is a major directory publisher putting their actual content, not just
marketing material, on the Internet. It's valuable, organized data," said
Bruce Buckland, Executive Vice President, Inforonics, Inc.

The Thomas Register on the Internet was implemented in 45 days using
Inforonics' BusinessWeb technologies. This tight schedule was possible
because BusinessWeb's toolkit facilitates custom features without the need
for lengthy development. During this time, Inforonics worked closely with
Thomas Publishing at all stages of the project to implement their Internet
publishing plan.

"We chose Inforonics as our Internet service provider because of its
reputation in the publishing industry for delivering high-quality
information technology services," stated Gary Craig, Associate Publisher,
Technology Development, at Thomas Publishing. "In the time that I have
worked with Inforonics, they have proven to be a solid and dependable
vendor."

Providing users of the Thomas Register with a well-organized and usable
Internet publication was a major project objective. Browsing with standard
HTML mechanisms is an impractical approach for Thomas Register's database
of over 150,000 companies with more than 1.4 million product/company
listings. Inforonics' response is to offer full text search capability
using its search and retrieval software, which is the foundation for
Thomas Register's Web server.

Maintaining the Thomas Register on the Internet and keeping the publication
vital and "visited" can be very demanding on computer and editorial
resources. To control these costs, the HTML pages in the application are
dynamically generated from a database and built "on-the-fly," using
Inforonics' database technology embedded in the server. As a result, much
of the updating of server information is accomplished with the same series
of processing steps which create Thomas Register's CD-ROM, print, and
Dialog online data outputs.

The Thomas Register application incorporates graphic design tailored to a
quality presentation and good performance levels for a target audience
with medium to high speed modems (9.6 KPBS and higher). The application is
designed for broadest compatibility with a range of browsers, and the
software was modified to make files compatible across a range of
platforms.

Thomas Publishing is launching its Internet service with a free trial
subscription. Once users have registered they can access the Thomas
Register's on-line sourcing information.

Thomas Publishing subcontracts the delivery of the application to
Inforonics, where it is supported by multiple Internet connections for
higher server reliability. Inforonics provides network administration and
full systems maintenance.

"Thomas Publishing will be adding services to the Thomas Register on the
Internet in response to the feedback we are getting from our customers,"
said Gary Craig at Thomas Publishing. "As our Internet service provider,
Inforonics has a vital role in ensuring that we deliver our services with
the most effective information technologies available."

BusinessWeb is an Inforonics Internet service which provides World-Wide Web
sites for businesses with complex database, catalog searching, and order
processing requirements. BusinessWeb also offers home page presentations
containing text and graphics, such as company profiles and annual
reports.
