INTERGRAPH UNVEILS 'JUPITER' TECHNOLOGY TO 2,000 CUSTOMERS

Huntsville, ALA., May 9 -- Intergraph Software Solutions (ISS) today
unveiled a new technology code-named "Jupiter" to more than 2,000
customers at Intergraph's annual International Intergraph Graphics Users
Group (IGUG) conference. Jupiter technology is a Windows-based component
software architecture that will be the foundation of new CAD/CAM/CAE and
GIS applications developed and sold by ISS, the software business unit of
Intergraph Corporation.

Jupiter technology will bring benefits of increased productivity,
dramatically improved software performance, reduced costs, and greater
flexibility to users. Jupiter technology is based on Microsoft's Component
Object Model (COM) framework. Jupiter leverages, enhances, and augments
Windows, enabling ISS to develop Windows-native advanced engineering and
technical applications. These Windows-native software components will be
discipline-focused, meeting specific needs.

ISS President Tommy Steele introduced Jupiter technology to customers,
allied third-party vendors, and financial and industry analysts during his
opening-day keynote address. Steele said that products based on Jupiter
technology will be available by the end of the year. He stressed that
Jupiter-based applications will be software components that complement -
not replace - existing systems customers are using today. "Jupiter is
about using existing technology Windows, OLE, MicroStation, AutoCAD and
EMS," Steele said. "Customers can use existing files, in their native
formats, in Jupiter-based products. They also will have the ability to
integrate live technical graphics with 2D business data using OLE for
Design & Modeling Applications. Jupiter brings an unprecedented level of
interoperability, flexibility and openness to CAD/CAM/CAE and GIS."

Key features and benefits

Jupiter technology's key features and benefits:

Windows-native CAD/CAM/CAE and GIS applications for improved productivity
and ease of use

Discipline-focused component software that speaks the language of the
user's profession, rather than the language of drafting, to empower users

Integration with CAD/CAM/CAE and GIS and OLE-enabled business applications
through OLE for Design & Modeling Applications

Direct access without translation to native files created with
MicroStation, EMS and AutoCAD via unique OLE Data Servers

Object architecture based on Microsoft's Component Object Model (COM)
framework, creating a standard, open environment for development of
component software

Steele said that many ISS customers are in fact already using Jupiter
technology and reaping productivity benefits through products such as MGE
VistaMap and the MicroStation OpenGL Engine (MOGLE) product that speeds
MicroStation performance by as much as 11,000 percent.

Improved software performance, as exemplified by the MOGLE product, is one
of the main benefits to users who add Jupiter-based applications.
Jupiter-based applications are able to achieve these dramatic productivity
improvements because they can directly exploit the operating system since
there is no core drafting software between the application and the
operating system. In addition, Jupiter-based products have been redesigned
from the ground up with Windows user interfaces and streamlined command
and menu options.

OLE for Design & Modeling Applications-compliant

Jupiter technology uses OLE for Design & Modeling Applications to integrate
with other OLE-compliant software including office automation products.
OLE for Design & Modeling Applications is a Microsoft OLE Industry
Solution that extends the OLE standard to enable linking and embedding of
CAD/CAM/CAE and GIS data in OLE-enabled container documents, maintaining
characteristics integral to working with technical data.

"Jupiter technology, with its use of OLE for Design & Modeling
Applications, has the potential to break down the barriers between
corporate information systems and technical information systems," Steele
said. "No longer will CAD/CAM/CAE or GIS be an island of automation in the
enterprise. Using OLE for Design & Modeling Applications, technical
information can enter the mainstream and be available to more individuals
and departments than ever before purchasing, marketing, subcontractors and
more."

To ensure ISS customers can continue to use the files and systems that are
based on traditional CAD software, Jupiter technology includes OLE Data
Servers, which enable customers to read, write, and locate data in files
created with MicroStation, EMS and AutoCAD while working in Jupiter-based
applications. Files created with traditional CAD software are referenced
in their native formats no translation is necessary.

Object-based

Jupiter technology is based on COM, the Windows object environment.
"Objects have long held promise for CAD/CAM/CAE and GIS applications,
which model real-world geometry and geography," Steele said. "Problems
arise when users need to work outside a particular vendor's object
architecture. Because Jupiter technology is built on standard Windows
object architecture, data created with Jupiter-based applications
integrates with all other Windows applications via OLE."

Two examples of Jupiter technology were demonstrated to IGUG attendees:
Imagineer Technical, a 2D precision drawing tool for designers and
engineers, and Jupiter-based tools for mechanical design.

What users and industry analysts are saying about Jupiter
-----------------------------------------------------------------
At Fluor Daniel, we're very interested in using object-oriented technology
and applications for plant design. From what we have seen of the Jupiter
technology, we are very excited and look forward to the new products that
will be developed by Intergraph that incorporate this technology. The fact
that ISS is working with Microsoft's Component Object Model and the OLE
standard is important because of the need to integrate CAD and graphics
with other non-CAD applications used in project execution.

Glenn Gilkey, director, project automation, Fluor Daniel Corporation

New Jupiter-based applications will bring a level of openness and usability
to CAD software that has not existed previously. Applications that are
built on application intelligence rather than drafting software is a true
breakthrough. And the fact that Jupiter-based applications work with our
existing files and systems MicroStation and AutoCAD in particular is key.
We can add new Jupiter-based products and increase our productivity while
continuing to use the data and systems we already have.

Richard Parker, senior vice president, Lockwood Greene Engineers

Jupiter technology is going to open up a whole new world of opportunities.
Jupiter technology will give us the ability to interface with many
Windows-based products. Easy-to-use component software will make us even
more productive. It will be much easier for us to produce reports and do
interface customization using the many Windows tools that are available.

Wilson Holes, manager of CAD operations, Litwin Engineers & Constructors

Jupiter technology is a reflection of Intergraph's view of the future a
world in which operating systems impact what CAD programs do and vice
versa. . . a world in which computer users can integrate and share any
work. Intergraph's alliance with Microsoft could pay off handsomely. Right
now, Microsoft is moving faster toward fostering broad use of object
technology than the committee-led efforts of the UNIX vendors.

Kathryn Hale, senior industry analyst, Dataquest, Inc.

Intergraph's commitment to Windows-based applications and its proactive
role in developing OLE for Design & Modeling Applications positions the
company for leadership in open CAD solutions.
