Lahey Introduces Fortran 90 Subset for Educational Market
$79 Academic Pricing

Incline Village, Nevada, May 18, 1995 - Lahey Computer Systems, Inc. today
announced their latest 32-bit PC Fortran language system, Essential Lahey
Fortran 90 (Elf90). Elf90 is the ideal Fortran language system for
students, engineers, and scientists who are interested in learning to use
the modern features of Fortran 90. By removing old Fortran features for
which there are better solutions in Fortran 90, the Elf90 language helps
promote an explicit, readable, maintainable, and modern coding style.
Because Elf90 is a strict subset of Fortran 90, programs are portable to
any Standard-compliant Fortran 90 compiler.

"With a price of $79, we will aggressively market Elf90 to the educational
community," stated Bob Runyan, Executive Vice President of Lahey Computer
Systems. "Elf90 is an excellent product for teaching the fundamentals and
modern features of Fortran. We envision Elf90 replacing FORTRAN 77 in the
classrooms."

Elf90 Version 1.0 runs under extended DOS using the Phar Lap DOS Extender.
Elf90 can also be run in a Microsoft 3.1 Window's DOS box or a DOS session
of OS/2. The Elf90 programming environment includes many of the tools that
are found in Lahey's professional Fortran language system, LF90. The
custom Fortran 90 editor enables users to write, compile, link, and run
their Elf90 programs from inside the editor. The debugger increases
productivity by enabling users to quickly detect and correct programming
errors and the on-line help facility makes it easy to use. The debugger's
profiler tool helps programmers pinpoint time-consuming code through both
global overviews of their programs and through detailed analysis. Also
bundled with Elf90 is the Phar Lap TNT DOS-Extender. The DOS-Extender
enables Elf90 users to build 32-bit protected-mode Fortran programs up to
4GB. The Elf90 language and all of the tools listed above are described in
the 300+ page user's manual.

Lahey will debut Elf90 at the American Society for Engineering Education
(ASEE) 1995 Annual Conference and Exposition in Anaheim, California, June
26-28, 1995. Interested parties can see Lahey at booth #320. Elf90 will
begin shipping on August 1, 1995.

The list price of Elf90 is $195 (US) for commercial users and $79 for
academic users. Multiple unit discounts and site licenses are available.
Elf90 requires an Intel 386 or 486SX with math-processor, or a 486DX or
Pentium computer with DOS 3.3 or higher, 8 MB RAM, and approximately 10 MB
disk space.

Founded in 1967, Lahey-Computer Systems specializes in the design and
production of Fortran language systems and development tools for
scientists, engineers and programmers. In addition to Elf90, Lahey also
markets Lahey Fortran 90 (LF90), and three FORTRAN 77 language systems:
Lahey Personal FORTRAN, F77L, and F77LEM/32. Lahey Computer Systems, Inc.
