FIRST SINGLE-BOARD GPIB CONTROLLER/ANALYZER

Complete GPIB Analyzer Functionality On New Plug-In GPIB Interface
Hardware

Austin, Texas - April 1, 1995 - National Instruments announced today two
new IEEE 488.2 (GPIB) interfaces that include complete GPIB Analyzer
hardware and software functionality. The ATGPIB/TNT+ and PCMCIAGPIB+
feature the functionality of an IEEE 488.2 Talker/Listener/Controller,
plus a complete GPIB analyzer in a single board. Requiring only a single
plug-in ISA or PCMCIA slot, the ATGPIB/TNT+ and PCMCIAGPIB+ are low-cost,
high-speed alternatives to separate GPIB controller and analyzer products.
These boards can control GPIB instruments as well as troubleshoot a
variety of IEEE 488 hardware and software problems. The ATGPIB/TNT+ and
PCMCIAGPIB+ can alleviate difficulties associated with GPIB communication
- issues such as addressing inconsistencies, protocol violations, bus
timeout conditions due to termination characters, END transmission, and
handshake holdoffs. The ATGPIB/TNT+ and PCMCIAGPIB+ are also the first
GPIB analyzers with an easy-to-use Windows graphical user interface (GUI)
that monitor and capture HS488 activity, the company's patented high-speed
GPIB mode of operation. The boards include NI488.2 driver software and are
compatible with the company's LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI application
software.

About the ATGPIB/TNT+

The ATGPIB/TNT+ combines the functionality of the industry-standard
ATGPIB/TNT interface board with complete GPIB Analyzer functionality. The
TNT4882C ASIC, which performs the basic Talker, Listener, and Controller
functions, including those required by IEEE 488.2, can implement
high-speed HS488 data transfer rates up to 3.4 Mbytes/s on the EISA bus
for both read and write operations. For standard IEEE 488 transfers, rates
are as high as 1.5 Mbytes/s. The ATGPIB/TNT+ is completely jumperless and
switchless, fully software-configurable, and contains all the circuitry
needed for future Plug and Play ISA compatibility. For current non-Plug
and Play ISA operating systems, such as Windows 3.1 and DOS, users can
configure the hardware settings through the NI488.2 configuration
utility.

Portable Instrument Control Via the PCMCIAGPIB+

The PCMCIAGPIB+ turns a notebook PC into a portable GPIB analyzer. It packs
the functionality of the award-winning PCMCIAGPIB card and complete GPIB
Analyzer functionality in a Type II PCMCIA card. Like the PCMCIAGPIB, the
PCMCIAGPIB+ is a completely portable, high-performance IEEE 488 Controller
used with DOS and Windows notebook PCs for numerous applications in
laboratory automation and automated testing. The PCMCIAGPIB+ can sustain
programmed I/O data transfer rates exceeding 1 Mbytes/s. It is compatible
with Card Services/Socket Services 2.0 and greater. Unlike dedicated
portable GPIB analyzers of the past, the PCMCIAGPIB+ leverages off PC
technology to create an easy-to-use, high-performance GPIB analyzer that
can easily take advantage of new processor and operating system
technology.

Pricing, Availability, and For More Information
