VERSION OF DATA ACQUISITION DRIVER SOFTWARE COMPATIBLE WITH E SERIES BOARDS
AND EXCEEDS INDUSTRY NORMS FOR STABILITY

Free Upgrade Available for Registered Users of "Operating System" for Data
Acquisition

Austin, Texas - April 19, 1995 - National Instruments- The Virtual
Instrumentation Company - has announced the newest version of NI-DAQ
driver software for the company's PC-based data acquisition (DAQ)
products, including their new high-performance E Series boards. With
NI-DAQ Version 4.6.1 for DOS/Windows, users of the company's new E Series
plug-in boards can perform equivalent time sampling on boards with analog
triggering, change sampling rates without reprogramming delays, and
execute new DAQ-STC counter/timer operations. NI-DAQ Version 4.6.1 is a
set of more than 100 functions that control analog, digital, and timing
I/O; SCXI signal conditioning; and RTSI multiboard synchronization on
plug-in DAQ boards. The software now controls more than 35 DAQ products
for PC/XT/AT, EISA, PCMCIA, and parallel port interfaces as well as more
than 20 signal conditioning accessories. NI-DAQ Version 4.6.1 is
compatible with popular programming languages in DOS, Windows, and Windows
NT as well as the company's LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI application
software. The company is offering a free upgrade to Version 4.6.1 for
registered users of older versions of NI-DAQ.

About NI-DAQ Version 4.6.1

With more than 200,000 lines of code written and tested by a team of 18
software engineers, the new version of NI-DAQ driver software could be
described as an "operating system" for data acquisition applications. It
eliminates low-level programming and integrates hardware with the
application programming environment. NI-DAQ is callable from popular
programming languages such as Visual Basic, Borland C++ for Windows, and
Microsoft Visual C++. All DAQ operations in LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI use
NI-DAQ to acquire and generate analog, digital, and timing I/O signals.

Control New DAQ Hardware

NI-DAQ Version 4.6.1 is compatible with many new DAQ products from National
Instruments, including:

E Series boards - the first completely software-configurable,
software-calibrated plug-in DAQ boards with superior timing features for
PC AT (ISA) and EISA computers

DAQCard-DIO-24 - a low-power, low-cost parallel digital I/O card for
computers with PCMCIA slots

SCXI-1141 - an 8-channel elliptic lowpass filter module for the company's
SCXI data acquisition and signal conditioning product line

SC-2040 - an 8-channel simultaneous sample-and-hold differential amplifier
for the company's E Series DAQ boardsNI-DAQ maintains a consistent
interface among its different platform versions, so users can upgrade to E
Series boards, port their applications to PCMCIA, and switch between
platforms with minimal code modification.

Sophisticated Bug Tracking During Development Improves Reliability

National Instruments spent more than one man-year testing NI-DAQ Version
4.6.1. This testing covered all DAQ products, compilers, languages, and
operating systems. During the test period, the NI-DAQ team recorded all
bugs in Lotus Notes and used statistical measurement techniques to set the
release date. The NI-DAQ software was not released until the product
significantly exceeded accepted industry standards. The company considers
NI-DAQ Version 4.6.1 to be significantly more robust than previous
versions.

Users No Longer Locked to Specific Card and Socket Services for Notebook
PCs

Previous versions of NI-DAQ included with National Instruments PCMCIA DAQ
products were compatible only with CardWare Card and Socket Services from
Award Corp. NI-DAQ Version 4.6.1 works with any company's Card and Socket
Services software, Version 2.0 or higher, for a much higher degree of
compatibility with notebook computers.
