Nintendo Buys One-Fourth Share in Makers of Donkey Kong Country

Redmond, WA -- Nintendo Co. Ltd. has agreed to make a multi-million dollar
capital investment in the U.K.-based Rare Ltd., the company responsible
for Nintendo's 1994 video game Donkey Kong Country.

Nintendo's investment in Rare will ensure that Rare remains not only the
world's most technologically advanced video game developer, but also one
of the largest, according to Nintendo. The investment, which will give
Nintendo a 25-percent interest in the company, marks the first time
Nintendo has invested in a video-game developer outside of Japan.

"Based on the tremendous worldwide success of Donkey Kong Country and
Killer Instinct, it's clear that Rare is the best video game developer in
the world," says Howard Lincoln, Nintendo of America chairman.
