PowerBASIC Upgrades Developer Kit for Windows

Carmel, Calif. ---- May 26, 1995---- PowerBASIC, Inc. announced today the
release of PowerBASIC Developer Kit for Windows (PBDK) version 2.0 with
support for both Windows 3. l and Windows 95. All applications created
with version 2.0 of the Developer Kit will run under Windows 3. l now, and
Windows 95 when it is released. The PBDK allows developers to create true
compiled programs with the speed of native machine code, yet easy access
to the Windows API. Further, the PBDK offers features not found in other
development tools, like true preemptive multitasking, even with version
3.1 of Windows.

"The Developer Kit for Windows is a very successful product for us,"
explained Bob Zale, President of PowerBASlC, Inc. "We constantly hear from
DOS Basic programmers who are struggling to port their code to Windows.
Now with version 2.0 we can even help them get to Windows 95 much more
easily than they ever thought possible. They can just compile their Basic
program using PowerBASIC and use the PBDK to create virtual Windows
applications."

Version 2.0 of the Developer Kit for Windows includes support for 256 color
bitmaps and adds enhanced printer support. This new version improves the
handling of graphic controls as well as accelerators and tab orders. PBDK
2.0 provides greater support for application embedding making it easier to
include the royalty-free PBDK system files in any application that the
programmer wants to distribute.

Additional features have been added to the PowerBASIC Developer Kit,
including support of DLL resource files. Any industry-standard DLL may be
accessed by the PBDK. The documentation has been extensively rewritten and
many new examples have been added to make programming easier. In addition,
PBDK 2.0 has been optimized to take full advantage of PowerBASIC's new 3.1
revision with its improved code generation capability.

The PBDK also supports advanced Windows features such as metafiles, virtual
screens, owner draw combo and list boxes, self-resizable controls, drag
and drop, MDI windows and more. This makes it easy to launch Windows
applications from within PowerBASlC applications, and even create child
tasks running in preemptive multitasking, synchronized through semaphores
and common-named memory.

An extensive online context-sensitive help system is provided along with
over 600 pages of helpful documentation in two volumes with lots of
examples and screen shots. The Symantec Resource Toolkit (a $199 value) is
bundled with the PBDK. This industry-standard resource editor lets
programmers design dialog boxes, menus, icons, and bitmaps of applications
interactively.

PowerBASlC Developer Kit for Windows, with a suggested retail price of
$149, is available to registered owners of version 1.5 for $59. Customers
can upgrade to version 2.0 by calling (800) 780-7707 or (408) 659-8000 or
by FAX at (408) 659-8008. PowerBASlC Developer Kit for Windows is also
available from selected programming retailers and direct marketers of
programming software. PowerBASIC, Inc. is a privately held corporation
based in Carmel, California.
