NEW C80-BASED BOARD WITH PERIPHERAL COMPONENT INTERCONNECT INTERFACE
DESIGNED FOR HIGH-SPEED GRAPHICS, IMAGE PROCESSING

May 16, 1995 -- Burnaby, B.C., Canada and Loughborough, U.K. - May 16, 1995
-- A powerful new card that will revolutionize many graphics and image
processing applications introduced today by Spectrum Signal Processing and
Loughborough Sound Images combines the high-performance C80 DSP from Texas
Instruments with a Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) interface.

The new PCI/C80 card implements a 32-bit PCI interface with TI's 2 GOPS
TMS320C80. This powerful combination permits data transfer between DSP and
host at up to 132 Mbytes/second, making the new card ideal for
applications that demand high speed processing, including radar scan
conversion, medical imaging, high speed inspection, or image enhancement
in pre-press applications.

"This new card is very well suited for mathematically intensive
applications. It combines the powerful C80 from TI with the PCI interface
in a highly versatile board that supplies speed and power found in no
other comparable board product," said Barry Jinks, president and CEO of
Spectrum Signal Processing. "LSI has done an outstanding job of bringing
these revolutionary capabilities together, and we are confident it will be
a very popular product for both of our companies."

To maximize data storage and minimize delay, the board contains up to 32
Mbytes of fast page mode DRAM and 8 Mbytes of zero wait-state synchronous
DRAM. Programmable display output can support resolutions to 1,600 x 1,280
pixels at up to 24 bits per pixel, allowing data to be output as VGA/SVGA
graphic or PAL/NTSC video. Data can be input via the PCI interface or any
of several plug-in modules available from Spectrum and LSI which fit the
board's general purpose expansion site.

These modules provide the PCI/C80 with a significant variety of input
formats or peripherals, such as composite and 24-bit RGB video. For
non-standard formats, users may design their own interface modules, or use
the DSP-LINK2, 32 bit parallel I/O interface.

Complete development software available

Spectrum and LSI are providing a complete set of development software for
the new PCI/C80 board, including a high-level language interface library
so user programs can be downloaded to the board. Drivers support most of
the established operating systems, including DOS and Windows 3 .1. An
assembler / linker / simulator, C compiler and a C source code debugger
are now available. And, an integrated applications library and environment
complete the package enabling users to harness the vast processing power
of the C80.

"The key aspect of any C80 program is to develop optimized software to
maximize the effectiveness of the device," said Simon Yates, director of
LSI. "The integrated application libraries available from LSI and Spectrum
provide the fastest and easiest route to building real applications using
the full power of the MVP."

The new PCI/C80 board is available from Spectrum Signal Processing
exclusively in North America at US$7200. per single board. OEM volume
pricing is dependent upon quantity.

Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. and LSI are leaders in industrial DSP
applications, supporting all the major vendors offering digital signal
processors. The Companies offer engineering tools, boards, and software f
the PC, VME and SBus environments.
