SYSTRAN Corp.'s SCRAMNet+ Network Connects EISA-based Computers In
Real-Time

Dayton, Ohio, May 8, 1995 - SYSTRAN Corp., developer of the SCRAMNet+
Network (a real-time replicated shared-memory system) and SYSTRAN's I/O
Solutions (a suite of IPack-based I/O interfaces), today announced the
availability of its new SCRAMNet+ interface for EISA-based computers. This
interface enables designers of real-time systems to take advantage of the
high performance available through EISA-based platforms. It also offers a
cost-effective solution for real-time applications such as simulation,
telemetry, data acquisition, instrumentation & control, and virtual
reality. Features include:

* A custom ASIC chip which reduces the package to a single slot.
* 16. 7MB/sec of data throughput.
* 250 nSec/node transport delay.
* Automatic retry on error for guaranteed transmission of
  accurate data.
* Field/user upgradeable memory modules, up to 8MB.
* Separate interrupts for status and memory events.
* Event counter/timer with global reset for self-diagnostics, network
performance measurement, and synchronized global timer functions.
* Compatibility & interoperability with existing SCRAMNet nodes
  (with minor exceptions).
* Auto-initialization, configurable via EEPROM, minimizing the number
  of hardware switches.
* Coax or fiber optic media options.

The SCRAMNet+ interface for EISA-based computers is currently available
with prices starting at $3495 per node, depending on the configuration.
SCRAMNet+ support is also available for: VME (3U, 6U, 9U), Sbus, and a
Rehostable node for special requirements.

The SCRAMNet Network is a real-time, replicated shared-memory system. It is
optimized for the high-speed transfer of data among computers (up to 256)
that are all solving portions of the same real-time problem. SCRAMNet's
ring configuration achieves microsecond application-to-application
performance with zero software overhead. Features include data filtering
to reduce network traffic, byte swapping for automatic reformatting of
variables, interrupt passing for synchronization, and a fiber optic ring
that handles 150 Mbit/sec line transmission rates for distances up to 3500
meters between computers. Applications include simulation, telemetry, data
acquisition, instrumentation & control, and virtual reality.

Located at 4126 Linden Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45432-3068 USA, SYSTRAN Corp.
specializes in real-time shared-memory networking, computer l/O
peripherals, and defense-related hardware/software R&D. The company's
SCRAMNet Network is a leading real-time network, with hundreds of nodes
used in diverse applications throughout the world.
