STARBRIGHT FOUNDATION SELECTS UB NETWORKS AS EXCLUSIVE NETWORK EQUIPMENT
SUPPLIER FOR 3D INTERACTIVE NETWORK

UB NETWORKS, INTEL, SPRINT, AND WORLDS INC. CREATE VIRTUAL PLAYGROUND FOR
SERIOUSLY-ILL CHILDREN.

Santa Clara, California -- May 9, 1995 --UB Networks today unveiled its
role in the STARBRIGHT Foundation's broadband network -- a private data
network that represents the first 3D interactive virtual community and the
first networked virtual environment to target the problems faced by
seriously ill children. UB Networks, the exclusive supplier of networking
equipment and system integration services for the STARBRIGHT foundation,
is designing and installing the infrastructure for this unique application
in cooperation with three leading technology companies: Sprint, Intel, and
Worlds Inc.

"This venture is a merger for kids," said Steven Spielberg, chairman of the
board of the STARBRIGHT Foundation.

"This first real use of the newly emerging interactive technologies
demonstrates the humanitarian benefits that can be realized when
networking technology is combined with the content rich, highly graphical
user-interfaces needed to appeal to non-technical users," said Roel
Pieper, UB Networks president and CEO.

The STARBRIGHT Foundation broadband network represents a collaboration
between the pediatric healthcare, entertainment and new technology fields.
Their mission is to develop "entertainment interventions" that will
empower seriously ill children to cope with the pain, stress and loss of
childhood they experience.

"By linking these kids, who are often deprived of the simple joys of
childhood, we give them a playspace just like a park or playground in
which they can interact with one another unencumbered by their physical
limitations," Mr. Spielberg said. "Not only do they get the chance to
communicate with their peers, but these distractive interventions have
significant therapeutic value. These kids will get the opportunity to come
out of the isolated and often debilitating world of hospitals, therapy,
pain and medicine to play, create, imagine and grow in ways that are not
only the privilege but the right of every child."

UB Networks will build the network infrastructure using the GeoRim/E a
high-performance ATM- ready Ethernet workgroup switch and GeoSwitch, the
affordable ATM switch for the workgroup. The company will also supply
network integration capabilities and Worlds, the new networked interactive
3D environment developed by their partner Worlds Inc. UB Networks brings
to the STARBRIGHT Foundation their extensive expertise in networking and a
long history of developing successful partnerships to solve complex
networking problems. The STARBRIGHT broadband network is a specific
example of the types of networks that organizations are starting to employ
to directly reach out to the consumer. Creating these networks is a
logical extension of the traditional UB Networks business.

"UB Networks has both the technology and expertise required to create these
complex interactive networks and is at the forefront of what promises to
be a new paradigm in business-consumer communication. Because these
environments make computer exploration intuitive, they set the stage for
broad acceptance of interactive networks that reach directly to the
consumer," Pieper explained.

To develop the interactive networking market UB Networks has recently
established the Interactive Initiatives business unit, and is currently
shipping a number of products to help organizations like STARBRIGHT make
use of interactive networking technologies.

"UB"s Interactive solution, InterWorld VR, is a combination of technology
provided by Worlds Inc., and a suite of support services that offer a
compelling virtual reality environment with 3D interactive multi-user
capabilities," said Tim Wild, vice president of UB Interactive
Initiatives. "Using this product, corporations can interact directly with
their customers through personalized virtual environments that could
include simulated hands-on product presentations, demonstrations,
training, and specialized support programs."

UB Networks, a pioneer in high-bandwidth networking solutions, is a leading
global supplier of hardware, software, service and integration products
for customers in heathcare, finance, government, finance and
manufacturing. The company offers a comprehensive line of enterprise-wide
networking solutions and has been particularly active in developing
network configurations and products for the newly emerging field of
interactive networking. Headquartered in Santa Clara, California, UB
Networks is a $360 million, wholly owned and independently operated
subsidiary of Tandem Computers (NYSE: TDM).
