WATCOM ANNOUNCES MULTI-PLATFORM EDITION OF WATCOM SQL

Company Also Intends to Deliver Windows 95 Version of Watcom SQL

Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, May 9, 1995 -- Watcom International Corporation,
a subsidiary of Powersoft Corporation and Sybase, Inc., today announced
new multi-platform editions of the Watcom SQL product line. Watcom also
announced intent to deliver a Windows 95 version of Watcom SQL. Watcom is
the first SQL database vendor to deliver support for Windows 3.1, Windows
NT, OS/2, and NetWare (NLM) in a single, shrink-wrapped package. Windows
95 support is planned for the package once the operating system becomes
generally available.

Watcom SQL addresses the rapidly growing market for an affordable database
server that can be broadly deployed, with little administrative support,
for desktop, mobile and workgroup applications. Watcom SQL was designed
with a small disk and memory footprint for the desktop PC and LAN server
environments. It requires minimal database administration, takes only a
few minutes to install and its self-tuning query optimizer offers
excellent performance out of the box. It is appropriate for applications
where no administrator is readily available, such as field force
automation and branch office systems.

"Customers who are deploying applications in mobile, desktop, and workgroup
environments, and on many servers and at many sites require simple,
multi-platform, cost-effective deployment solutions," said Dave Boswell,
vice president, marketing, at Watcom. "Watcom SQL offers a simple,
flexible licensing and distribution arrangement that addresses the needs
of this mass deployment market."

"Our division in Canada includes 12 field offices, all of which are running
a variety of operating systems that best suit their specific requirements.
From an IS development standpoint, this can be very difficult to manage,"
said Allan Higgins, assistant manager, marketing technology department, at
Paul Revere Life Insurance. "The new packaging of Watcom SQL on a single
CD-ROM adds flexibility and increases efficiency in our development and
deployment efforts."

BROADENING CLIENT/SERVER DEPLOYMENT

Designed specifically for the PC market, Watcom's family of SQL databases
meets the unique needs of the mobile, desktop and workgroup computing
environments. The Watcom SQL database has a very small footprint,
requiring less than 1 MB for the SQL engine and less than 2K per
connection.

In addition, the shrink-wrapped Watcom SQL database provides high
performance out of the box. Its self-tuning, cost-based query optimizer is
designed to provide top performance without expert measurement and tuning.
This capability makes Watcom SQL well-suited for the mass deployment of
client/server applications to satellite offices or remote sites without
dedicated database support staff.

"Watcom SQL is small, quick, inexpensive, and it doesn't take much effort
to set it up and keep it going," said Herb Edelstein, president of Euclid
Associates, a leading database consulting firm. "This is exactly the
combination you need for the sweet spot of the mass deployment market,
which is standalone and small workgroup databases."

Watcom SQL is available in the following configurations:

Watcom SQL 4.0 -- A standalone version for customers developing single-user
or mobile applications, as well as users requiring relational database
solutions beyond the limited capabilities of personal databases such as
Access, FoxPro and dBase.

Watcom SQL Server 4.0 -- Available in various numbers of concurrent user
versions to meet the multi-user requirements of workgroup environments.
