MAY 22,1995, MOBILE, AL -- XANTE Corporation introduces the LaserPress
1800, the only 1800 x 1800 dpi laser printer with true Adobe PostScript
Level 2 and imagesetter quality text, line art, and halftones that can be
printed up to 150 lpi.

The LaserPress 1800 is engineered with the 33 MHz AMD 29030 RISC processor
and standard 48 MB RAM, upgradable to 128 MB for high performance
printing. In addition to providing fast processing speeds, the LaserPress
1800 is designed for those who demand the most in high resolution plain
paper imaging. This printer ships standard with the ability to print 1800
x 1800 dpi letter or legal size documents and 1800 x 900 or 900 x 900 dpi
pages up to 12" x 19" size. Users also have the option of upgrading the
LaserPress 1800 to 96 MB RAM in order to print 1800 x 1800 dpi images on
11" x 17" and 12" x 19" page sizes.

The LaserPress 1800 provides true cross-platform compatibility with
simultaneously active serial, parallel, and LocalTalk interfaces. Ethernet
is provided as an option, supporting concurrently active EtherTalk and
TCP/IP protocols. The standard SCSI disk connection allows up to 7
external hard disk drives to be attached to the printer.

Included in the standard configuration are a 250-sheet universal cassette,
supporting all page sizes up to and including 11 x 17/A3, and a
multipurpose feeder supporting all page sizes, as well as envelopes and
oversize 12" x 19" pages. An optional 250-sheet feeder with cassette is
available.

"The LaserPress 1800 is a chemical free alternative to high cost
imagesetters for many printing applications," stated XANTE' s vice
president of marketing and international sales, Martin Kennedy. "No other
laser printer provides the functionality or output quality of this
printer. The LaserPress 1800 produces the highest resolution available of
any laser printer on the market today. The extraordinary 1800 x 1800 dpi
resolution is perfect for producing camera-ready text and graphics."

The LaserPress 1800 supports XANTE's Halftone Calibration Technology,
enabling users to adjust the gamma curve of scanned images, gray scales,
and other halftones when printing. This feature enables users to calibrate
the midtones of halftone images, bringing out detail that can be lost when
printing at higher line screens or when dark photos have been scanned.

PRINTER FEATURES

Adobe PostScript Level 2 Software - The LaserPress 1800 offers the
reliability, assurance of compatibility, and high performance provided by
Adobe PostScript Level 2 software. This software offers several benefits,
including enhanced file and memory management schemes, data compression,
forms support, pattern caching, and composite font support.

High Resolution - The XANTE LaserPress 1800 provides 1800 x 1800 dpi
resolution for typeset quality text and graphics. Standard configuration
allows for 1800 x 1800 dpi printing on letter or legal size pages, and
1800 x 900 or 900 x 900 dpi printing on pages up to 12" x 19" size. Users
can upgrade to 96 MB RAM for 1800 x 1800 dpi printing on page sizes up to
12" x 19". High resolution is further enhanced with ultra-fine toner to
make text edges smoother, line art sharper, and graphics cleaner. The
output is well suited for camera-ready materials and final product uses
such as newsletters, brochures, and advertisements.

Halftone Calibration Technology - The LaserPress 1800 allows the end user
to adjust the gamma curve of halftones easily from the printer's front
panel. This technology addresses a common problem of images appearing too
dark when printed at higher line screens as a result of fewer levels of
gray. Adjustments can be made to lighten the mid-tones, bringing out
details lost with the fewer levels of gray, while leaving parts of the
image which are intended to print at completely black or white unaffected.
Halftones and gray scale images up to 150 lines per inch can be achieved.

Paper Handling - The LaserPress 1800 supports two input sources in its base
configuration. A 250-sheet universal cassette is provided and can be
configured to support all page sizes up to and including 11 x 17/A3. A
150-sheet multipurpose feeder also is provided and supports all standard
page sizes, envelopes and 12" x 19" oversized paper. The oversized paper
supports a printable region of 11.62" x 18.7" and allows for full-bleed
11" x 17" printing with enough room for crop marks.

An optional 250-sheet universal cassette and feeder is available.

High Performance Controller Architecture - The XANTE designed controller is
powered by the 33 MHz AMD 29030 RISC processor and a standard 48 MB RAM to
provide high performance printing. The printer is upgradable to 128 MB
with user-installable SIMM modules.

Simultaneous Interfacing - RS-232 serial, Centronics parallel, and
LocalTalk interfaces are included and can all be active simultaneously for
seamless, cross-platform support. Ethernet, running concurrently active
EtherTalk and TCP/IP protocols, is available as an option. A SCSI
interface supporting external disk connection for additional font and form
storage is included as a standard feature.

Font Handling - In addition to providing a standard of 35 resident
typefaces, XANTE includes support for TrueType fonts and Adobe's Type 1
downloadable fonts.

TARGET MARKETS & APPLICATIONS

The LaserPress 1800 is targeted at several markets that share common
interests: the maximum in high resolution laser printer output, extensive
paper handling capabilities, fast processing, and cross platform
flexibility. The printer can be used to produce camera-ready output on
plain paper for many applications including newsletters, brochures,
newspapers, documentation, catalogs, and others.

The principle market that is attracted to the LaserPress 1800 is the
growing high-end desktop publishing field. Service bureaus, print shops,
and ad agencies make use of the higher resolution capabilities which
provide smooth text and line art, and unmatched scanned and other halftone
images. This market requires the highest quality laser printed images that
only this 1800 x 1800 dpi resolution can provide. The large page size
support provides flexibility in full 11" x 17" page bleeds, 2 page
spreads, and many other applications.

Both large and small corporations with a mixture of Macintosh,
PC/compatibles, UNIX, and other workstation environments benefit from the
interface flexibility. The LaserPress 1800's print quality greatly
improves newsletters, documentation, product brochures, and other forms of
literature normally sent outside the company, often eliminating the
necessity of out-of-house printing.
