AT&T GIS broadens Globalyst line to include PC servers

June 14, 1995 -- DAYTON, Ohio -- With the introduction today of new
Globalyst PC servers, AT&T's computer unit is now extending PC&C (personal
computing and communications) across its Globalyst family from the laptop
to the network. To meet the varied system requirements of today's wide
range of businesses and business applications, AT&T Global Information
Solutions' new Globalyst PC servers offer Intel(R) Pentium(TM)
processor-based scalability that ranges from 60MHz through 133MHz. The
Globalyst PC server family includes the single processor Globalyst S10
through the balanced symmetrical multiprocessing (SMP) four-processor
Globalyst S40.

Using dual 133MHz Pentium processors, and moving data across an
industry-leading dual PCI bus architecture, AT&T GIS' Globalyst S40 server
set a new world's record for best price/performance in a transaction
processing environment emphasizing update-intensive database services. The
Globalyst S40 achieved its record-setting result--a TPC-B Benchmark(TM) of
440.98 transactions per second and price/performance of
$253.61/tpsB--running Microsoft. SQLServer 6.0(R) in a Windows(TM) NT(TM)
Server 3.51 operating environment.

In addition to providing excellent performance, the new AT&T servers
enhance system reliability and availability through their use of AT&T
Server Availability Manager for Microsoft NT and AT&T Server Monitor for
Novell(R) NetWare(TM). These software packages, included at no additional
charge with every Globalyst server, provide high availability and greatly
reduces system downtime.

AT&T Server Availability Manager automatically switches an application, as
required, to a backup server in a Windows NT environment, with minimal
interruption of service to the user. Helping to reduce administration
costs, the AT&T Server Availability Manager also remotely monitors the
status of Globalyst servers, and notifies the system administrator if
selected components operate beyond predefined parameters. AT&T Server
Monitor for Novell NetWare allows the administrator more effectively to
monitor the status of a NetWare server.

In addition, the Globalyst servers leverage AT&T's experience in network
management to provide enterprise-quality workgroup servers and
sophisticated industry-standard management tools for server monitoring and
management. "We are applying our expertise in personal computing and
communications to the evolving needs of the PC LAN market," said Rob Howe,
vice president, Worldwide PC Marketing, AT&T GIS. "We are bringing
together the best PC&C capabilities of the Globalyst family, and enhancing
these with AT&T's robust server functionality to offer customers
outstanding performance at affordable prices."

INDUSTRY SUPPORT

AT&T's Globalyst PC servers offer support for the widest range of operating
systems, including Novell NetWare, Novell UnixWare(TM), Microsoft Windows
NT Server (with factory pre-load option), SCO(R) MPX, IBM OS/2(R) SMP and
AT&T's UNIX MP-RAS. Novell NetWare MP will be supported upon release of
the operating system from Novell.

"We are excited about our growing relationship with AT&T and providing
support for their new Globalyst servers," said Richard King, executive
vice president of Novell's NetWare Systems Group. "The Globalyst servers,
combined with NetWare, provide an excellent platform for high performance
network applications. Novell applauds AT&T's focus on PC&C and looks
forward to working with them to bring our joint customers the full benefit
of integrated solutions."

"The AT&T Globalyst servers are an outstanding example of scalability and
reliability," said Dave House, senior vice president and general manager,
Enterprise Server Group, Intel. "With their focus on personal computing
and communications, they are providing their customers with a superior PC
server platform."
