BBN Planet Introduces Web Advantage Service

BBN Internet Subsidiary Offers Total Business Solution Nationwide; Adds
World Wide Web Server Collocation, Con tent Design Services

CAMBRIDGE, MA, May 22, 1995 -- BBN Planet Corporation, a subsidiary of Bolt
Beranek and Newman Inc. (BBN), today announced a new value-added Internet
service: the Web Advantage service. The Web Advantage service offers
customers a unique turnkey business solution for developing a corporate
presence on the Internet's World Wide Web. BBN Planet provides each
customer with a dedicated Web server connected to a router that is a part
of the high speed Internet backbone network. By "collocating" the
customer's Web server at one of BBN Planet's network centers, these
servers transmit high-volume publishing traffic directly onto the
Internet.

In addition to collocated servers, the Web Advantage service also offers
customers easy, "one-stop" shopping for Web content design and related
marketing services, through a third-party partnership program which was
also announced (see below). The Web Advantage service was previewed last
week at an open house held to mark the opening of BBN Planet's new
Internet Network Operations Center (NOC) in Palo Alto, CA.

"As the only Internet service provider with worldwide end-to-end
trouble-shooting and problem resolution, BBN Planet already offered an
unrivaled level of customer service for businesses," said Paul R. Gudonis,
chief executive officer of BBN Planet Corporation. "Now, with Web
Advantage, we can continue to stay ahead of our competitors and not only
meetbut anticipate our customers' Internet service needs. This will enable
us to provide the kind of turnkey Internet business solution that today's
companies and organizations require."

"Web Advantage service provides businesses and organizations with a means
to deliver large quantities of data rapidly to the Internet, without
requiring the customer to install, operate, and maintain the extensive
computing and networking resources required," said Carl Howe, marketing
manager for the Web Advantage service at BBN Planet. "And, by partnering
with industry-leading Web content providers, we will deliver a true
turnkey solution for companies seeking to establish and leverage a
corporate Web presence," he added.

The Web Advantage service provides a wide range of World Wide Web
electronic publishing services to serve the needs of commercial,
educational, and government organizations. This turnkey service
encompasses a complete spectrum of electronic publishing services,
including consulting, author training, custom World Wide Web site
creation, and high-performance Internet server operations. Web Advantage
servers route high-volume publishing traffic directly onto the backbone of
the Internet without increasing the load on the customer's regular
Internet connection. By using BBN Planet's collocation service, Web
Advantage users also get full 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week monitoring of
their server's electronic information delivery by BBN Planet Network
Operations and Technical Assistance Centers.

BBN Planet also announced a third-party partnership program for the Web
Advantage service, as part of ongoing business strategy to pair BBN
Planet's full range of value-added Internet services with vendors
specializing in producing imaginative, targeted, content for World Wide
Web sites. The synergy of BBN Planet and its partner organizations such as
Media Circus (NOTE: See separate release.) will deliver profitable,
Internet-based solutions that take full advantage of this new medium, and
push today's Internet networks to become the broadband, multimedia
networks of the future.

Web Advantage service will be available starting July 1 in a variety of
prices and configurations to meet varying business and bandwidth needs.
Web Advantage services connect to the global Internet using 10 to 45 Mbps
links, ensuring that data flows to its destination without bandwidth
bottlenecks. Pricing for the Web Advantage service starts at $2,000 per
month for 10 Mbps service, plus additional one-time set-up fees. Server
collocation sites are located in Cambridge, MA, Palo Alto, CA, and College
Park, MD. Pricing for Web content development and consulting services are
quoted on an individual basis.

Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, BBN Planet Corporation, a
subsidiary of Bolt Beranek and Newman Inc. (BBN), is the nation's leading
provider of managed Internet access and value-added services for
businesses and organizations. Last Fall, BBN celebrated the 25th
anniversary of its development of the ARPANET, which led to the
development of the global Internet. Over 1,000 leading companies and
educational, medical and research institutions nationwide connect to the
Internet via BBN Planet's operations. BBN Planet's Internet services
include managed security services, around-the-clock network operations,
end-to-end problem resolution, comprehensive problem tracking, backbone
management, training and consulting and ongoing configuration management
services. For its fiscal year ended June 30,1994, BBN had revenue of $196
